Anyone who's watched just about any teenage film knows that the greatest evil in this world isn't chemical warfare, ethnic cleansing, or even the nuclear bomb. The worst crime known to man? Why, virginity, of course. As we've learned from countless films--from ISummer of '42/I to IRisky Business/I--virginity is a criminal burden that one must shed oneself of as quickly as possible. And while many of these films have given the topic a bad name, IAmerican Pie/I quietly sweeps in and gives sex some of its dignity back. Dignity, you may say? How can a film that highlights intercourse with fruit pies, premature ejaculation broadcast across the Internet and the gratuitous "gross-out" shots restore the dignity of a genre that's been encumbered with such heavyweights as IPorky's/I and ILosin' It/I? The plot of iAmerican Pie/i may be typical, with four high-school friends swearing to "score" by prom, yet the film rises above the muck with its superior cast, successful and sweet humour, and some actually rather retro values about the meaning and importance of sex. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Eddie Kaye Thomas make up the odd quartet of pals determined to woo, lie and beg their way to manhood. The young women they pursue are wary girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid), choir girl Heather (Mena Suvari), band geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), and just about any other female who is willing and able. Natasha Lyonne as Jessica, playing a similar role as in ISlums of Beverly Hills/I, is the general advisor to the crowd (when Vicky tells her "I want it to be the right time, the right place," Jessica responds, "It's not a space shuttle launch, it's Isex/I"). The comedic timing hits the mark--especially in the deliberately awkward scenes between Jim (Biggs) and his father (Eugene Levy). And, of course, lessons are learned in this genuinely funny film, which will probably please the adult crowd even more than it will the teenage one. --IJenny Brown/I

I was reluctant to see "American Pie", because every time I heard the name of the movie, I really was hearing "just another lame teen movie" or another "Animal House" wannabe, or the "Porky's" of my generation, but worse. Well, one day I had nothing to do, so I decided to watch it. I was very surprised by "American Pie" because the movie is actually funny.p"American Pie" does have some elements that could have contributed to make another silly movie, like the gross-out humor, the usual share of TA, the fouled language, in few words, the typical ingredients of a cheap teen movie.pBut "American Pie" has key elements that set the movie apart from its predecessors: the cast is kinda charismatic, some of these actors and actresses will be lost in oblivion and others will be famous, but it's hard to deny that these cast is funny and sure they had fun while they were filming "American Pie". Special mention to Eugene Levy, he brings the wisdom of a veteran, and mixes very well with the young newcomers, of course, he steals every scene that he appears on.pThe girls in this kind of movies usually are attractive, and thankfully (to the guys) "American Pie" has pretty girls like Tara Reid, Alyson Hannigan, Shannon Elizabeth and Mena Suvari, not all these girls have real acting talent, but at least in "American Pie" they got the work done. pOn the other hand, this original "American Pie" movie is the only one truly worthy in the series. I'm sure there are a lot of fans of the second and third movies, but the most demanding audiences will agree that the only decent "American Pie" movie, is this one, the original.
Hilarious depiction of teen life. June 27, 2004

American Pie is a great comedy depicting the true situations teenagers face everyday. The concept of the movie is not original, as there are many movies like this. But this one is the best of them all. Four friends, Jim, Finch, Oz and Kevin make a pact to get laid before graduation and the things that ensue are hilarious. It is viewed by some as immature and grossly stupid at times, but that is the charm of this movie. Right away when we see Jim get caught with the tubesock, it becomes evident that he will be the one that happens to end up in the most embarrasing situations. What is so funny about this movie is the way teen life is depicted. Nothing fake about it. Teens are concerned with parties, sex and other things, and this captures a pretty good picture of what it is like being a teenager growing up. After you see this you will have it stuck in your head. Say what you will about it being immature, but it is guaranteed to keep you laughing as you follow the lives of average teenagers that just want to get laid.

Ok, here's the plot:some douchebags make a pact to get laid. Wow, great plot, I'd love to see a movie like that...not. Then at the end when they get laid, it just shows sex scenes. Wow, real funny, teenagers having sex. If I wanted to see people have sex, I'd watch a damn porno. The movie isn't that funny. There's some funny parts, but the movie's still retarded. I hope there's an American Pie movie where Jason Bigg's character gets in a divorce and committs suicide, while his wife becomes a crack whore. That'll show people how much life really sucks. I just wasted $15 on this piece of crap, and now I can't get it back. I hate this movie and Jason Biggs.

I know that many hate this movie and think it immature and stupid, but it is so funny! The quest of four guys to lose their virginity by prom and the little mishaps along the way. My friends and I fell over from laughing. We had to pause the movie after Jim and the pie incident because we were laughing so hard. I liked that the directors pushed the buttons when they made this movie. Thats what makes it so memorable. I love it, own it, quote it. This movie is a must see.
EXCELLENT COMEDY , A MUST SEE April 28, 2004
American Pie is hands down one of the greatest comedies ever. This movie is raunchy, very funny, but it also has heart to it.The explict sex scenes crude humor, and strong language in this movie may be to much for some people but it doesnt bother me. Everybody says it influences teen sex and teen drinking, but this movie isnt just about teen sex and teen drinking its about growing up and the stuff teenagers go through. Jim is the dorky guy that tries to hard, Oz is the sensitive jock, Kevin is the guy who wants everthing to be perfect, Finch is the 40 year old living in a 18 year olds body, and Stifler is the wild crazy party guy. This movie also has great acting by, ( Jason Biggs, Chris Clien, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Sean William Scott, Tara Reid, Shannon Elizibeth, and of course Eugene Levy), a good script , and great first time directors. I would recommend this movie to people who like funny, raunchy, but heart warming comedies!!!!!
