5 out of 5 stars Really cool horror flick   September 5, 2006

If you have played the games or not, this is an awesome movie to see. Great mind blowing effects, an all over the place but comes together in the end story, and lots of gore! Get this one now.

Like many others out there I am a huge Silent Hill fan! And I have to say since the movie was first announced it was going to be made I nearly jumped out of my seat! The games are a work of art, and the film (although different in some respects to the storyline i.e. the main character Rose Da Silva being in place of the original Harry Mason from the fist Silent Hill), managed to remain very faithful to the game, and conveyed the original atmosphere and storyline very well. I'd rather they hadn't changed Harry Mason to Rose Da Silva , but I understand why maybe the did. But it still works very well so it doesn't really matter! The depiction of original characters from the first original Silent Hill is excellent! Just looking at Laurie Holden playing Cybil you can see what i mean. Also other characters like Dahlia Gillespie. Christophe Gans has really done a great job in the making of this film. I was worried that like most movies based on computer games it would be a total rip off of the game and be a real disappointment. But thankfully the makers of Silent Hill wouldn't let that happen as they worked closely with the script and film production. Another thing I was pleased with was the music. Thank god that they still used Akira Yamaoka! He is the only one who can score the soundtrack to Silent Hill, and it was a real treat to hear his masterpieces on the big screen! In all I have to say that I was totally blown away by Silent Hill. And it really is a great film based on a truly amazing and terrifying game! And as a fan of Silent Hill I'm very please of the loyalty to the game. I have read numerous reviews to this film, and I have to say they are varied. It seems fans of the game love it! But most people who haven't played the game are left a little bit confused. But I suppose the answer to that is simple I guess. Silent Hill has a very complex storyline, and if you haven't played the game you will of course be a little bit confused! It's hard to fit such a complex storyline into the space of two hours. And even there I think they did pretty well! But of course if you have played the game you will of course understand the elements of the storyline much better than opposed to those who haven't played the game. I think the film at the end of the day was predominately made for fans of Silent Hill, 'cause if it were any different it just would be Silent Hill! My advice to people who have not had any prior knowledge to Silent Hill is to just get out there and play it! If you enjoyed the movie you don't know what you're missing in regards to the game. The games are the real Silent Hill! And a masterpiece when it comes to psychological horror. In all this truly is an excellent film, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a damn good scare! And I think going to the top of the box-office pretty much says it all really! br / br /Review by: Terry Walpole br /
