4 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking.   August 16, 2008

I just finished watching this very intense movie. The performances of Heath Ledger, and Abbie Cornish were outstanding, and well deserving of any positive recognition that they both received. Heath's tragic death has left a great void with his fans, and critics alike, who appreciated his amazing talents as an actor. Candy is just one of many films in which Heath excelled, and gave all he had. In every role that he took, it wasn't like he was trying to act, it was more like he actually became the character, and he put his heart and soul into making it real. His diversity as an actor has been realized several times, and this movie is no exception. Candy is hard to watch at times, given the subject matter, and the nature of Heath's death just months ago. But, all in all, Candy is a very good movie. It tells a story of love and addiction, loss, hope, and sacrifice. But the story itself is nothing without the talents of the actors who are presenting it to you, and if you walk away from this movie feeling for the characters, and caring about what they endured, if you can get lost in their passion and understand their pain, then these talented actors have done their job. Even if you don't care for the theme of the movie, see it for the talent that is presented. You won't be disappointed.
