A Pleasant Evening In Store October 17, 2006 Marie Fleurette (Quebec Canada) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this on a whim, with no expectation whatsoever as I only knew a couple of the actors in this production. I spend a very pleasant evening indeed. Aside from the locations, which are fantastic (I must go to Jersey!!!), the acting is first rate through and through. Apparently, every actor involved in the project did it with the understanding that there is no small part, because I cannot name a single character that feels out of place. In the two leads, Keeley Hawes as Fancy Day is as good as ever (no wonder period drama producers love her) and James Murray as Dick Dewey is certainly worth discovering (pay attention to subtle looks and gestures, he is very good!). I must absolutely mention Terry Mortimer as Robert Penny, the shoemaker-violinist. Although his character is quite a departure from the one in the book, I enjoyed him tremendously! He's really funny. A word to those who like to "get in the action": get yourself a bottle of cider before you watch it and thank me later (I felt an urge for cider just as much as I felt one for chocolate while watching "Chocolat"!).
