Outstanding, But . . . . June 6, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, I am amazed at how seamlessly the new visuals fit into the episodes. Even something as subtle as a three-dimensional star field adds real beauty to the exteriors of the ship. The prints are crisp and warm, even when viewed with a standard DVD player. However, with all the back-slapping going on in the restoration documentaries, I'm surprised at how many of the original production errors were left untouched: in "Where No Man Has Gone Before", the wire is clearly visible on the phaser rifle when Gary Mitchell flings it from Kirk's grasp; in "The Enemy Within", the massive continuity gaffes toward the end (the reverse print of Kirk's face with scratches on the left instead of the right, the blank viewscreen behind the evil Kirk on the bridge) are still there, looking even more glaring than in the orifinals. Why sink all that time and money restoring all the episodes by removing scratches and uniform lint and leave things like that untouched? Especially when Paramount/CBS expects us to shell out $150 for the sets (and thank you Amazon for the clearence price for season one so we can afford to see these enhanced versions. I hope that if I shell out the coin for a Blu-Ray version of Seasons 2 & 3 there will be fewer obvious restoration omissions. Still, well worth the $50 and the experience.
AWESOME, LEGENDARY SCI FI CLASSIC REMASTERED. PURE AWESOME. TREK IS BACK. May 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really love this set. Its the best. Star Trek started it all out and they RE-MASTERED IT ! What can be better ? This is a abvious worthy buy. Its also great for non-trek fans, since they can dive into this great series and since the new star trek movie is coming out in 2009, i'd suggest this re-mastered season 1 to anyone.
Pricey -- And Hasn't Blu-Ray Become The Industry Standard Now? March 11, 2008 5 out of 31 found this review helpful
Yes, I want to buy this, but I'm concerned over the high price -- especially since it appears that Blu-Ray has recently beat out HD as the new high-definition standard in the DVD market.
Will I be required to buy this expensive set again, in Blu-Ray format, in a few months/years if HD format goes the way of Betamax video?
Must Have For Any Star Trek Fan !!!! December 8, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was quite impressed with the mastering of this series, now beyond 40 Years... Plenty of time and effort has gone into this effort and it shows. Colors are vibrant, especially in High Def, truly an amazing experience, despite the fact that this set at 133 aspect ratio... Don't expect these to be in widescreen, read the packaging carefully. As well, all of the Special Effects, have been upgraded to 21st century technology. The effects are impressive to say the least and, in my opinion, enhance this gem. As well, with the spruced up effects, they have managed to maintain the original effects, intention. This is a HD-DVD combo, which means that the discs will work on both players, side A is HD DVD, side B is standard DVD. Both sides are remastered beautifully in Dolby 5.1 on DVD, Dolby True HD in Hi-Def. The extras are fabulous, especially with the technology, interactive menus, of the HD DVD format. 7 episodes feature behind the scenes commentary. Several extras, were already present with the previous box set, but the rest is definitely worth the look. Overall, it is pricey, but if you are a true fan of the series, definitely pick this jewel up
