| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Sarah McLachlan fans have had relatively slim musical pickings to choose from of late, with the Vancouver-based singer recording only two studio CDs in the last decade. That said, in the twelve years between the first Rarities, B-Sides and Other Stuff and this sequel, Volume 2, McLachlan has continued to release noteworthy music via soundtracks, collaborations, and fundraising compilations, making this collection well worth having. The Prayer For St. Francis and Unchained Melody are prime examples of that fact: previously available solely as a Japanese import or to her fan club members, the St. Francis prayer is whisper-beautiful, while her reworking of Unchained Melody offers a nearly-unrecognizable -- but equally compelling -- version of the original Righteous Brothers classic. Other highlights include a cover of The Beatles' Blackbird (from the I Am Sam soundtrack) as well as a handful of wonderful collaborations, ranging from a tender duet with Cyndi Lauper on Time After Time to the Ladysmith Black Mambazo pairing for "Homeless. One merging that works surprisingly well is with Canada's king of pop/rock, Bryan Adams. The pair recorded Don't Let Go for the animated feature Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron, and McLachlan's soprano soars through the chorus in a manner guaranteed to send shivers through each listener. An additional noteworthy number is perhaps the least-known collaboration, a live pairing of Pills by The Perishers, a gorgeous ache of a track, wonderfully written and delivered. --Denise Sheppard
