Amazon.co.uk Review Who else but Tim Burton could make Corpse Bride, a necrophiliac's delight that's fun for the whole family? Returning to the richly imaginative realm of stop-motion animation--after previous successes with The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, Burton, with codirector Mike Johnson, invites us to visit the dour, ashen, and drearily Victorian mansions of the living, where young Victor Van Dort, voiced by Johnny Depp, is bequeathed to wed the lovely Victoria. But the wedding rehearsal goes sour and, in the kind of Goth-eerie forest that only exists in Burton-land, Victor suddenly finds himself accidentally married to the Corpse Bride, voiced by Helena Bonham Carter, a blue-tinted, half-skeletal beauty with a loquacious maggot installed behind one prone-to-popping eyeball. This being a Burton creation, the underworld of the dead is a lively and colorful place indeed, and Danny Elfman's songs and score make it even livelier, presenting Victor with quite a dilemma: Should he return above-ground to Victoria, or remain devoted to his corpse bride? At a brisk 76 minutes, Burton's graveyard whimsy never wears out its welcome, and the voice casting is superbly matched the film's gloriously amusing character design, guaranteed to yield a wealth of gruesome toys and action figures for many Halloweens to come. --Jeff Shannon

brilliant!!! August 26, 2008 a beautiful film that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. the cast is great and i loved the animtion, these things make up for a slight lack of story line but it is still a wonderful movie!
Beautiful, dark and interesting February 21, 2008 Dark, gothic, beautiful animation, and a quirky collection of songs and dialogue are the main characteristics of this interesting and appealing Tim Burton animated feature.
Adults and children alike can enjoy this, and appeciate it's dark, gothic beauty.
Tim Burton's at its finest December 30, 2007 I have been a fan of Tim Burton for a long time and was blessed when my wife offered me this title as a present.
A tale of true love set in a the now typical Burton phantasmagoric world, full of delightful surprises for the eyes and the ears.
A comic and sensitive love story that should please the little ones for its dynamic and funny characters while the not so little will appreciate the subtleties of the characterisation and mise en scene.
A delight..! December 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The film Corpse Bride by Tim Burton is in many ways a true delight. The puppets and the techical details have been improved since the Nightmare berfore Christmas, and visually it is fantastic, with an elegant use of colours. And of course, the story itself is wonderfully tragic, highlighted by a verey strong voice performance by Helena Bonham Carter, who really gives life to the dead! The music in the film is made by Danny Elfman, and it is in many ways very suitable, with some beautiful piano pieces, however, the regular songs are not quite the same high standard as the Nightmare Before Christmas, but still good, but that is the only thing that is missing. All in all a film really worth watching, thanks to the fantastic world of Tim Burton and the amazing puppets, vitalized by the actors who made this a film you shan't easilly forget. A true delight!
Eerie, atmoshpheric, hauntingly beautiful, completely Tim Burton. November 3, 2007 Many reviews have compared this film to "Nightmare before Christmas" and I cannot understand why. The only thing similar to it is the design of the puppets, yet this is understandable as they are Tim Burton's wonderfully unique designs which immedietely give the film that Tim Burton-esque quality.
The soundtrack is another brilliant factor in this film, Danny Elfman again producing an eerie, atmospheric and romantic score representing the theme of the film completely.
The cast are so superb at conveying the emotion in their voices that you forget that anyone is voicing the puppets at all, instead getting wrapped up completely in the story.
Which leads me to the storyline. Wonderful. It is a beautiful tale that might even bring tears to your eyes, teaching adults and children alike a wonderful lesson without even realising it. It is so easy to fob off animations, particularly Tim Burton's as pointless childrens fairytales but Corpse Bride offers so much more. The wide range of humour certainly caters for a wide audience making you laugh out loud despite how many times you watch it.
All this along with the interesting special features make this DVD a serperb choice for anyone. And I highly recommend this to anyone as it is one of Tim Burton's finest.
