5 out of 5 stars Great now...better in a year's time   October 18, 2008
Mr. W. J. Vallance (Sheffield, SY UK)
The Q6600 is essentially the backbone of high performance PC's, delivering consistent power to every application you run. Since most games today are still optimized for FSB legacy processors, the likelyhood is that only one of the cores will be taking the workload. However with the gaming industry progressing ever more, you will find that the Q6600 will begin to shine in all its glory, clocking 9.6GHz with all four CPU's running at the same time. br / br /Like I say this processor is future proof, so whilst you're guaranteed performance today, you can expect outstanding performance tomorrow. Simply a must have since a lot of software depends highly on processing power. I would also recommend a nice big fan to go with this chip; with my Thermaltake MaxOrb fan running at full pelt, I can get it running at an adequately cool 54C. br / br /Buy this processor and ENJOY!

5 out of 5 stars Plenty quick enough for most applications   December 27, 2007

This processor was purchased to replace an ageing dual Athlon 2.0GHz MP system and has worked well straight out of the box (part # BX80562Q6600). br / br /The processor was married to a separately purchased "Intel G965 Socket 775 ATX" motherboard (Intel DG965WHMKR). The included fan is quiet and sufficient for the job, including pre-applied thermal paste. In a Windows XP x64 system with 2Gb of Crucial DDR2 memory, Office applications run well as do mid-range flight simulations (CFS 3 and Glider Sim - SoTS). Take care on application support on XP x64, as not all usual applications will run under the 32-bit sub-system (e.g. Norton Anti-Virus). br / br /Good at the price point for those wanting to upgrade, as the Intel Quad Core 2 extreme processors are probably only worth the money (four times as much) for servers or for real top end gaming. br / br /
