4 out of 5 stars Worked Straight Out of the Box   August 5, 2008
I brought this after some consideration to get my Wii connected to the internet, i was worried about if it would work straight out of the box.

Shouldn't have worried as i plugged one into my router via the supplied LAN cable and plugged it into the wall switched on. I then went to the living room, plugged the LAN cable into the Wii USB LAN adaptor and the other end into the Netgear which went straight into the wall and switched on. After three or four minutes they had found each other, the Wii connected to the internet and that was it.

No updating, no playing with settings - worked straight out of the box (didn't even read the instructions)

5 out of 5 stars Worth the Money!!   July 2, 2008

I have a netgear DG834N this is the fastest and most powerfull router on the market for home users. But for a well built house it could not manage full speed, i would be lucky to get half, and all it had was two brick walls. when i got this product it was so bad i had to move the computer nearer to get it to login. So i bit the price tag and ordered it thanks to amazon prime (worth the 50) i got it the next day at no cost great start!! iam a typical male and just opened the box and pushed the plugs in, took a about 30 secs to find each other. when they found each other it was great!! consent high speed connection to the router. the only bad thing is you have to loose a plug socket but a bit of cable hidden round the edge of the room to power the router sorted that side and lucky the computer had one free socket. It does say "dont use an extention cable" but it also says it may well work but not as well as it should. 110% worth the money

5 out of 5 stars Quick and easy.   June 19, 2008

I wanted to go online with my xbox 360 however my family do not have a wireless modem and because my xbox is situated in my room, a long ethernet cable just was not an option.
After lookin at many options i decided to go with these powerline adapters. I was a bit unsure at first because how could it be THAT simple?
But it is that simple. Just plug one into the socket near your internet modem and another near the xbox or laptop or woteva and connect the ethernet cables.
I haven't noticed any lagging on xbox live and it works every time!
The only problem i think you may find is if you have plugged the sockets into a multi socket extension lead. If you have all the units using that extension cable turned on, the powerline adapters wont work to their full speed.

So basically they are so easy to set up, they come with the ethernet cables you need, and its all very good qaulity. I just don't understand why people have given this item a lower score.

5 out of 5 stars Far Better than the Max Value ones   June 16, 2008

I bought a set of max value 85Mbps powerline adaptors and whilst they seemed to work ok, I found that the from my slingbox (which is not connected to the adaptors) was severely limited.

Bought these netgear boxes and all is well with the world, can get in the region of 80Mbps out of them which is enough for what I need.

5 out of 5 stars Simple & Effective Little Devices   June 5, 2008

Having purchased these Homeplugs I have had the easiest and stress free network installation to date, you simply plug them in, it's that easy! I tested the devices once I had updated the firmware and changed the names / network ID (simple procedure all provided by the accompany software) around the house and got some surprising results.

We live in a 2 story house which is 5-6 years old, so it is relatively new and I was warned I might have problems due to the electrical wiring being on different sets; however I found speeds of 40 MB from the having both devices at the furthest ends of the house and up to 100MB from the ground floor to the first floor.

Of course whether or not the same quality will be found in all homes is unpredictable due to the different environmental factors; however for just wanting internet access around the house without the need for unreliable wireless, I have found these devices perfect!
The worst speeds I found were around 4 MB up and down, ironically in the same room, which even at that point if just being used for internet access is acceptable due to the fact you are only going to work as fast as your connection (which in our case is 4MB, so it would still be perfect)

The accompanying software also provides some extra features such as prioritising certain types of transmission (UDP, TCP, 802.1p, TOS & DSCP) and diagnostics.

I have had a number of computers from the upstairs point continually working on the internet through these devices to the router for 3 days straight and not a single hiccup, with the best part being that I can mix and match around the home without having to run cables everywhere or worry about wireless signal, marvellous!
