I bought this for an old gentleman friend of my family (over 80) who wanted to convert his jazz vinyl and tapes into mp3 form in order that he could listen to his music on his ipod or burn CDs. He had a Sony music system that only had 6mm (approx) headphones socket and no other output. I looked at various products for him and this one seemed to offer it all although I was a bit worried about the using the output from the headphone socket as this didn't seem to be how it was intetnded to be used. I needn't have worried the device worked like a dream. The box gets all its power from the usb so its was simply a matter of connecting the usb lead to the computer and connecting the RCA leads to the headphone socket via a 6.25mm to 3.5mm adapter which in turn was plugged into a 3.5mm to RCA stereo adapter; I couldn't find a 6.25 to RCA stereo adapter (please note the adapters and RCA leads are not supplied supplied with the kit).
Two pieces of software come with it:
1. Audacity (which I believe is excellent but never got the time to use)
2. A bespoke piece of software which is extremely easy to use
I settled on using the simple software. All you have to do with this is start it then start the music. It provides two peak meters (one per channel) so its easy to see the strength of the signal(if its too low simply turn up the volume on the hifi or increase the input signal strength by turning the dial on the ion urecord unit. When a track ends you simply click on the next track icon to indicate to the software that this is a new song. One tricky part was that of having to turn the record or tape over as there didnt appear to be a pause comand in the software however I readily got round this by just recording this as a track and deleting it later on itunes.

Once finished the software readily allows you to save to your itunes library and the quality of the finished product on the ipod was very very good.

I had no problems with buzz or hum from bad earthing

All in all a really good product highly recommended.

I got ths for Christmas and I am very impressed. Incredibly easy to set up with, for once, understandable and relevant instructions, it gives great results which I can no doubt improve with the Audacity software once I get the hang of it.

I never wanted a USB turntable, as I didn't want to get rid of the one I have - and this is the ideal solution. I would recommend this to anyone with a lots of vinyl and a turntable that they are happy with.
