Good but annoying niggles May 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Had one for about 10 months now. Well built and very good sound quality, even when used in an internal bathroom (I live in SW London so assume DAB signal is pretty strong). Some small but annoying criticisms though:
1. The necessary charge pack battry is a rip off at 27 extra 2. When powered by battery it has a stupid double-press on button to turn radio back on (press once and it turns off again, need to press twice at carefully spaced interval) 3. No ability to have alarm cancelled at weekends so you need to remember to turn it off every Friday and bakc on Sunday night
Evoke - 2 XT April 19, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Excellent sound quality,v/good tone control. Easy to tune and set up.Pleasure to listen to. Bought with recharge battery pack, works well. Was able to pick up 14 No 90- 100% reception Dab stations in North Dorset using radio ariel. Tried TV ariel was worse. Would need to buy Dab ariel to get more stations. Very slight grumble, instruction book says that I have a sleep timer for radio to turn off in 15, 30 mins etc, have not got this! Other timers work well. Argee with other writer that screen display is bright for bedroom even on lowest setting.Ended up draping piece of material accross radio front.
Fault April 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am not sure how common this is, but the display on the one I bought stopped working after about 3 months. It remained illuminated by light (i.e. blue) but all of the white text disappeared. Nothing else was wrong with it, it could, for example, play and change channels, but as you can imagine it was thereafter unusable. Before that the only other niggle was that the light display was too bright for a bedroom. Ironically after the display stopped working, this problem remained with no way to remedy it by navigating my way to the display options! If it were not for this fault, though it would have been a good radio with a good sound.
Lots of good points but some niggles as well April 9, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Good: Great sound Plays loud if you want it
Poor: Few presets Slow changeover between stations Sometimes doesn't want to turn on properly (the biggiest niggle) When on ACDC, bright blue backlight impossible to turn off Bulky Awlful handle Aerial easy to break
...and STILL no Chargepaks available! March 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Yes - it's another 3 star review! Such a pity too, for altogether I love this radio with it's lifelike quality sound, easy-use menu, handy (if pricy) SD card recording, and classy looks. But in common with other purchasers I have to use it plugged into the mains, so largely it's stationary, as it's fairly large to lug about to another socket! Frankly, even if I could get the Chargepaks easily I'd be doubtful about buying them, as the stories of them going on fire etc., scare the socks off me! Still, it's a decent product otherwise, so I hope in years to come the manufacturer gets the "battery" issues sorted out for the newer versions.
