A Great Sounding Portable DAB Radio - No Wind Up! June 18, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
When I bought the radio I thought it looked a bit plasticy and some of the buttons a bit chunky but I have got used to it and its grown on me.
The sound quality is great but the wind up function is only of any practical use when using it in FM mode. So I never use the wind up.
The main feature is that you can fully charge the radio and then use it in DAB mode for up to 6 hours of use. This makes it an ideal bathroom radio or emergency entertainment when you have a power cut (which I experienced in January 2008).
The Freeplay radio is easy to operate which you would expect however, I purchased a different rechargeable radio for the second bathroom and even though it looks great its not obvious what the buttons actually mean on this other radio.
One negative comparison between the two radios is that the Freeplay requires 24 hours of charging to produce 6 hours of DAB radio. While the other radio only requires 5 hours of charge to produce 5 hours of DAB radio. Hence the 4 star rating.
That said, due to the price drop of the Freeplay I have been purchased 2 * additional radios. One to move around the place and act as spare for the bathroom radio and the other one as a gift.

They claim this is eco friendly. you only get 3 to 4 min DAB usage when winding up. WHAT IST THE POINT? had it 2 mins once i found this out i packed it up and returned it. The unit is heavy and ugly. you can only get long term usage if your connect it to the mains and charge it once again WHAT IS THE POINT?
GO AND BUY A CHEAP DAB WITH RECHARGABLE BATTERIES.

Great if you don't expect to much from the rechargeable function December 11, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this for my husband for christmas and it's been one of my most succesful presents to date! It sounds fab, and is easy to tune. I bought it mainly because it's rechargeable so we could take it into the car. The wind up function is pretty pointless, more of a gimmick. But, charging on the mains works pretty well. This is probably because I never did use it in the car, instead we just carry it around the house so we can hear 6music wherever we are, so we're never too far from the mains socket should we need it. It's perfect to take into the bathroom when you have a long soak, and means that you never have to buy batteries. Don't expect more and you won't be disappointed. I'd buy it again!
had it for a while May 25, 2007 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
Quality radio but as others have said the battery is truely awful due to the power hungry DAB. Sound quality is very good on DAB and FM and comes with the quality expected from Freeplay, all in all a good radio great work out when usung DAB as a minute's wind will give you about three minutes of play time.
