Great value for money August 15, 2008 Having done the usual and shopped around looking at various options including Bose, I opted for the Grffin. For notes spent this is an excellent buy. The overall sound quality is far better than I was expecting. I use this in my kitchen and having hi-fi separates as my main system I was expecting a bigger compromise in sound for the trade off of convenience that an ipod and the Griffin offers. This is a very well designed product that delivers better sound quality than expected.
Stunning August 4, 2008 At this price i wasn't expecting such quality- ok, you have to fiddle with you EQ settings, and be careful choosing a site for your griffin, but once done- frabjous!
I use musical fidelity x-series components via mission 753 freedoms; after 6 hours with the griffin, i'm considering selling them.
I reccommend mr zimmerman's famous quotation, 'Play (expletive deleted) LOUD'! The amplifi handles it easily.
Simple to use - bargain of the century July 31, 2008 Griffin Amplifi 2.1 Sound Speaker System for iPod
Not being too technically minded, I was confused by the vast array of speaker docks for the ipod, After a lot of searching and trying, I bought the Amplifi and was astounded by the value for money - this is a true bargain - the sound quality beats the Bose sounddock hands down and it is so simple to set up and use.
The only controls are skip and volume, not great if you like to fiddle with gadgets but if, like me, you just want a simple, great sounding piece of kit it's perfect.
I've tried some of the more expensive speaker docks around the 200 mark, doing the usual thing of "it cost's more so it must be better". I wasn't particulaly happy with any of them. I'd read the reviews on the amplifi but thought it couldn't be that great as is was under the 90 mark. Eventually I decided I'd give it a go. I wish I'd gone for it months ago - I could have been enjoying my music! Also, I have over 100 in change to spend on more gadgets!
This really is the bargain of the century - do not be put off by the low price, it is more worthy of the Bose Sounddock's price than the Soundock itself!
Disappointing May 16, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is like a little sub, with it's wooden box, so the base is pretty good. But the two small front speakers inside just aren't up to the job. The overall sound was so disappointing that I returned it on the day it arrived.
Low priced quality April 25, 2008 I wanted an IPOD dock with quality looks and sound and didn't particularly want to spend a lot of money. I have a decent hifi (Denon) and wanted the Amplifi to allow me to listen to music around the house via the IPOD. What I didn't want was something plasticky with poor sound.
The Amplifi delivers both in terms of its looks and performance. The sound is crystal clear and the bass is impressive for such a small unit. I also think this thing looks the biz. One small anomaly is that when the unit is on but not playing there is some small feedback in the form of a low hum. This is not an issue really as it disappears once the music starts.
For 100 I don't disagree with other reviewers in saying that the quality of sound is surprisingly good. Comparison's with BOSE are valid only because in the majority of cases this type of system will be a second source of music (after the main hifi / separates) and therefore it seems pointless spending the extra money when the Amplifi gives you such quality and convenience for such a low price.
