2 out of 5 stars Multi-region only worked for 6 months - now stuck in region 1   August 31, 2008
After 6 months the player crashed during a film and since then I get "bad disc" errors for all region 2 films. Seems like the player lost the region setting since it plays region 1 discs just fine. I've tried to change it to multi-region again, but the player still only plays region 1 discs.

This worked perfectly for a couple of weeks, but then it started to not want to play certain discs (Region 1 and 2), claiming they were 'BAD' even though they were brand new. When it does choose to play a dvd, it clearly doesn't enjoy it as it usually jumps and gets stuck at certain parts of films (usually about an hour in). When this happens you can hear it trying to do something, but it doesn't resolve itself and pressing any of the buttons does nothing. Well except the eject button, which is the only way to stop this annoyance. On a few dvd's it loads the menus, but when you select to play the movie it does nothing and you can't do anything to get to it to play it. I wasn't expecting a high-quality dvd player from 'Daytek', but i did expect it to at least play dvd's without fuss.

The only good thing is the upscalling picture quality, but that's worthless if it refuses to actually play the damn thing. If Daytek set out to make the most annyoing, aggrovating and useless dvd player with 1080i upscalling, then a job well done guys.

The unit looks so slim and compact. All DVDs and Divx CDs played so well without any freezing and skips. It has read all my Divx Cds that did not work with my Philips DVD recorder so this little one has kicked out the Philips and has taken a main position next to my 37" LCD TV in the living room. I am quite satisfied with picture qulality when upscaled to 720P or 1080i. Highly Recommended for such value !

1 out of 5 stars Dissapointed   June 22, 2008

Had this unit for less than 2 months. I have only played about 2 dozen films on it during this period. It now refuses to play any disk whatsoever whether it be audio or movie. It just keeps on displaying "Bad Disk" Very dissapointed as it had good reviews. I could have got a Sumvision with similar spec for about ten pounds cheaper which is what I will now probably end up doing now.

This is now the second one of these I am having to return to Amazon. It keeps reading regular new DVDs as being "BAD DISC". It's really slow to load. The first one broke within days - wouldn't even properly turn on.
I don't rate this.
