4 out of 5 stars Good for a first DAB to try them out   June 24, 2007

My first portable DAB
POSITIVE
-Not a bad size bigger than my MP3 but fits in my pocket
-comes with more extras than some of the more expensive ones do- useful rubber cases
-Not a bad reception (In Herts) my DAB clock radio gets more but it's got a bigger ariel
-easy controls no need to read the 'words'
-clear display/good backlight

NEGATIVE
-on/off button needs to be heald for just the right amount of time and then released to turn off- takes a bit of practice
- It's a bit loud. Even on the lovest setting it seems rather loud. I am blessed with good hearing and it is just a little too much. problem solved however, with headphones that include it's own volume control
-Battery life not great and not really the 8 hours it says on the box (even the Durracel batteries)
-could do with some kind of things on case or player itself
to hang around your neck so you can get to it easily although I suppose it might be a bit heavy
- strange place for the headphone socket
-As others have said the supplied headphones are only good if you have big ears the don't really stay in and are uncomfortable.

overall a good machine to try DAB out on. Reasonable price

5 out of 5 stars Simply the best! (well I've only tried this one)   February 2, 2007

Well done ministry of sound! An excellent product, but more than that, its the kind of device that can actually make a significant positive effect on the quality of your life. If you are new to DAB as I am, you will be immediately struck by the clarity and range of sound - aided by the well designed ear phones. The number of stations (so long as you can get a signal) opens you up to more of what you really want to listen to (check out Planet Rock!!). If you are new to DAB it might be worth checking out local reception with someone else already 'illuminated' by this new alternative. Break up of sound can occur, but that is due only to local reception issues, and has nothing to do with the radio itself. My experience suggests use on the train can lead to frustrating blackouts of the signal, but if you buy this radio you are likely to be so impressed by it, that you will adapt yourself to it..... rather than visa versa. With some fiddling I've managed to get the ear phones to provide a solid base frequency (but that is not to say everyone will feel as comfortable with them as I do). The radio comes with 3 handy rubbery covers which fit perfectly and make the whole outfit feel 'solid'. The switches are sound, but the backlight times out rather quickly, not so good in darkened conditions!! Also it seems rather battery hungry when compared to me old Boots personal FM/AM radio. And i'm eternally grateful to that for its years of good company. If you are thinking about buying this MoS radio - do it! You are very likely to remember that day for years to come!

i bought one of these radios 3 years ago from another source and found easy to use straight away . the sound quality is very very good. the headphones supplied are rubbish though iwould recommend buying another pair. can i also recommend using batterys out of IKEA. i can get up to 12hours use out of one pair of them instead of just 8 using duracell rubbish

Although I was irritated by the initial fiddly button I am very pleased by the product as a whole, especially considering the price.
Some reception dificulties but can live with this considering the great added stations (esp R6, R7, TMS) from digital frequencies. Makes my visits to the allotment much more enjoyable!

1 out of 5 stars Not a good buy   March 15, 2006

I bought one of these to listen to during my commute to work on the train. I have a non portable digital radio at home which gets a brilliant signal but the MoS Personal Radio didn't ever get a signal, not at home, not at the railway station nor at any point into London on the train. I sent it back and got another in case it was faulty but the replacement was the same. Don't buy one of these if you live in Bucks. I rang the helpline number that they send with the product and they were just rude. Waste of money.
