3 out of 5 stars Why put the on/off switch on the back of the subwoofer?   August 21, 2007

At the price I think these speakers are fine for general computer use. Any sort of serious listening to music really needs something better. As you would expect they just don't have the depth of sound and quality of proper audio speakers. I know many people say they are not concerned, but it really irritates me that the on/off switch is on the back of the subwoofer. The manual suggests "for optimum sound quality place the subwoofer on the floor beneath your desk". Fine, but hardly convenient! As the amplifier is live when the speakers are switched on I feel I have to grovel about and switch them on and off each time I use them.

3 out of 5 stars Worth it if you're on a budget   August 10, 2007
The sound is not bad... slightly dull and "tinny" but for that price you can't really complain... except my father bought some brand new speakers a while back for under a tenner and they sound better than these do. :( The sub-woofer is definately a plus but it takes up too much space on the floor. And the wire to the mains isn't long enough either.

5 out of 5 stars good bit of kit   March 16, 2007

I don't normally write reviews, but I do read them before I buy, so i thought I should do my bit for the community!
These espeakers are very good. I previously bought some labtec 375's and was pleased with them. In comparison to these 485's, they are nowhere near as loud or as punchy. The bass is mean although does start to buzz when turned up full volume.
For the money the 485 pulse speakers will give excellent, powerful, clear sound and a bass speaker which is sure to annoy your neighbours. Is that my doorbell now?

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   December 10, 2006

With my Dell PC i received their complementary Dell speakers, which where ok for the first 2 years of use, where the most i would put them through was a simple wmv clip via a site. However as my music collection grew I decided it was time for a small upgrade. I heard wonderess things about it's younger pulse brother and decided to go the extra mile and go for the bigger one.

Since day one they have been brilliant, producing good sound quality. Admittidly you wouldn't shake a house down and my floor doesn't rumble like my surround sound speaker, but for normal desktop use and music that requires a bit more punch than your average joe 2.0 speakers these are excellent. They don't break the bank and they have offered superb reliability, even after numerous constant use, after around 5-6 hours they do start to get slightly toasty inside but i've gone around 7-8 hours fine with no decrease in performance.

I would definitly recommend these to anyone who is new to the market, and they are more than fine for gaming, cables strech far enough to go from one side of a desk to the other with ease.

Really i can't think of any cons from this speaker set, you can't moan at the price, nor the sound quality, and compared to my old speakers they give great base.

Definitly a top buy.

5 out of 5 stars I bought these speakers 8 months ago..   November 14, 2006

I think they are magnificent. I haven't touched the bass control on the back of the woofer since I bought them and set it up. I use the keyboard to adjust the volume. I have the woofer and both speakers all on the desktop (..a large oiled and waxed piece of shaped plywood - cost less than a tenner!)
Welcome to my Studio!
