5 out of 5 stars Get a proper computer they work fine   January 31, 2008

These memorex are the first DVDS that I have bought and everyone that I have burnt has worked. Ive had all brands ffom data write to Philips. The quality that these disks give is far better and had no coasters. I suggest you get a proper computer if you can not burn them

5 out of 5 stars No problems with them at all   August 21, 2007

I don't really burn these discs on the computer, preferring to use them as 'everyday' discs for 'giveaways' and general use. I had also previously bought 2x50 packs when they were under a tenner each direct from Amazon so the value at that time was tremendous. Why they have suddenly jumped up to 15, 18 and 21 odd at today's prices (21.08.07) I can only put down to popularity I suppose. Anyway I have used them on a Daewoo, Funai and on Panasonic player/recorders and have yet to have a single `coaster' at all. In fact had they been at the original price they were when I first got them I would have ordered another 2-3 packs today. (which is why I'm currently at this page) As it is they are now a little bit expensive for my `everyday' usage. So this time I will go for the Emtec Dvd-R as sold on this site. (these discs currently a gift @ 7.93x50discs and good reviews) Remains to be seen if those are any good.

For burning on the external Dvd recorders previously indicated, these discs are just fine and we had no problems with them at all. Can't really speak of PC burning. Pity that price wise they are just a little bit OTT now as they are up there with Verbatim which is my particular favourite. All IMHO of coarse.

1 out of 5 stars I would advise you to avoid.   July 30, 2007

Well, I bought these discs because I was attracted to the price - but it really isn't worth it as far as I'm concerned.

The product comes with a tiny note, written in the smallest writing, provided by the manufacturer, stating that for one reason or another, you might experience a compatibility problem with the discs (with the audacity to blame your DVD recorder). If you experience this problem, you are advised as a remedy to visit the memorex website and download ('upgrade') some appropriate firmware that is compatible with your DVD writer and load it across on a DVD or a CD-ROM.

As far as I am concerned, the last box of DVD-R discs that I bought worked absolutely fine, with no adverse issues (TDK discs). I really don't want to 'upgrade' my DVD recorder firmware (could possibly ruin the machine) and as a result I'd advise people to avoid these discs like the plague and go with what they already use and trust.

I'm returning my discs for a refund - thanks to the excellent service policy that is employed by Amazon (who I bought my last box of discs from). I will be shopping with Amazon in the future (because it is a fantastic site) - I won't be be buying anything at all with Memorex written on it.

You can make your own mind up.

1 out of 5 stars Power calibration error   July 2, 2007

I changed to this brand when the Datawrite DVD-R disks were out of stock. Upon trying to burn to any disk I receive a power calibration error and the burn fails. Now there may be some sort of trick to burning to these Memorex disks, however I prefer burning to disks which work every time. No doubt there will be people reading this that will scream at the monitor saying something along the lines of "You need to do this to get it to work you fool". However I am not interested in searching on-line forums in order to do this.

So, if you know what the problem is and can solve it then by all means buy these disks, if on the other hand you don't want the hassle then buy another brand.

I have used man different brands over the years.
Memorex, Ricoh and Verbatim worked the best for me.
These Memorex DVDs are from great quality and i haven't even had one "coaster" yet.
a MUST BUY if you burn your own DVDs.
Absolutely Recommended!
