For the money, This is the best sport headphones by a distance July 10, 2008 I bought the SHS8000 after my Sennheiser PMX70 fell apart after one year of gym use. I must say I am surprised to read some of the negative reviews here. I suspect someone has been sold a fake item.
For comparison, if headphones were cars, the Sennheiser PMX70 would be Ford Mondeo, and the Philips SHS8000 a BMW 3 series.
Build quality - with the PMX70 the first thing you notice is the screws that hold the parts together. The SHS8000 is moulded together with no screws as far as I can see. The material all look to be of far better quality than the Senn.
Fitting - is the most comfortable I have ever come across, and believe me I have had loads of so-called sport headphones. PMX70 used to clip the back of the collar of my jogging jacket. The SHS8000 fits so so well with no distraction or obstruction. You put them on, and you want to run straight away.
Sound quality - Sound is clear and crisp, but as would be expected from a small headphones a little bit compressed. But truth for me is, I have not yet a sports headphones with a better sound. The volume (or power) is quite remarkable and better than the PMX70. The bass is good if not better than the PMX70 which has drives 3 times bigger.
If your bass is not enough, then you have probably got the wrong size of earbuds or just a fake item.
Outside noise - mine blocks it out quite well. Probably helped by the fact that my ears are not the biggest. Again in comparison to the PMX70 the SHS8000 does this miles better.
Other qualities are - the cable quality is soft and very flexible, which is very important for a sport headphone
Conclusion: The best sports headphone out there for the money. How long it will last?, left to be seen. With the Sennheiser PMX70 my body heat got the rubber band round the drive extending and enlarging continuously. In the end it was coming off taking the cover of the drive with it. Very disappointing for an item that promised a lot. Let's hope the SHS8000 holds up.
Can't understand neg reviews???? July 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So glad I didn't take any notice of negative reviews on these headphones.Bought a pair and was delighted, needed a bit of experimenting with the different sized rubber seals but when I finally got the correct size fitting they were brilliant used them with my MP3, my pure evoke 3 dab radio and my PC.Anybody who says"there is no bass has obviously not fitted the correct sized rubber seal, what I did was fit a different size in each ear then applied a little pressure to each side, whichever side IMPROVED with a little pressure I then REMOVED and changed for an equal size to the other ear,if you persist you will finally get a great sound(a light smear of vaseline on the rubber will help as the rubber tends to be quite dry).Think I will buy another pair in case they sell out.
Very comfortable, very POOR sound quality June 22, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Please listen to those who mention the crappy sound on these. I decided to go for them to replace the standard phones that came with my Archos 605 which are very hard and leave my ears sore. Although extremely comfortable, the tinny baseless sound from the Philips SHS8000 has made them a complete waste of time. No matter how snugly they are in my ears, even at full volume they fall well short of the mark...AVOID!!!
Quite simply the Best earphones for sport May 29, 2008 1) Set up the seals for your ear canel. (ie these phones need a sealed canel to give the best sound.)
2) Place the earpiece in your ear canal 3) Plug in: Rock ON. Superb sound Great bass, and
NO matter how hard you jump shake your head etc, they will not come out. This is my 4th pair of sport phones and the 1st time ive tried these. Ill be back when/if they die!!!. Great design well though out.
Good fit, Poor sound May 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
They do fit your ears well & are fine for running but...Using it with my IPOD nano the bass is very weak & the actual volume low. Frankly wish I had not bought them.
