1 out of 5 stars another way for nike and ipod to make money   June 10, 2008

I am rather unhappy to write this review as i was once a huge fan of this little machine. However, after about 1 year of having it, the truth of it starts to come out.

Im not a very mad runner - only running about 2 maybe 3 times a week. This machine at first was wonderful as i could find out how far and how fast i was going etc.

Started noticing some problems when it started changing itself between miles and km. Then it started not responding when i first connected it before a run.

Then last week, after not using for about a fortnight, i went to put it on and the machine said that there was no sensor present. I did the run anyway hoping it would pick it up but nothing.

Now it wont even register when i attach the chip!

Ive been googling about to find out if there is anything i can do and i have come across thousands of messages from other people saying that they have exactly the same thing.

It seems that the sensor has a small battery in it, and this runs out, low and behold!, right after the 1 year warranty is up! (some people were reporting that they were having these problems after about a week! so it looks like i was lucky to get a year out of it!) This battery is not made to be replaced and so you then have to go and buy another one.

I would seriously think about looking about and seeing if there is anything else on the market - or wait and see if a better version comes about, as i think this is a waste of money now, and pretty crap for the environment aswell!

5 out of 5 stars Incentiviser   April 6, 2008
I bought one of these to give me an incentive to train for a charity trek I'm doing. I hadn't run for 15 years and felt I needed all the help I could get!
It gives you your pace, distance and time whilst you're running and, if you put your weight in, your calories burned at the end. It's such an amazingly simple device, it works right out of the box.
The real bonus is synchronising to the Nike+ web site. It's great to chart your progress and to set yourself challenges. After two runs I set myself a challenge of running 50 miles in 5 weeks (something I thought I had no hope of doing), others joined my challenge and this gave me the added incentive to get there with time to spare.
Quite frankly, it has given me added incentive to run and I doubt that I would still be running without it. I'm now running three times a week, I'm fitter as a result, and have entered my first 10Km competition. If, like me, you just need a little extra push to get you out of the door this could be just the thing!

5 out of 5 stars Surprised   April 5, 2008
I have only just started running again after 6 months doing no exercise, I'd lost motivation after a pair of running shoes started hurting my feet. Bought this as a motivation booster.
Before trying it I was very suspicious of its accuracy. Calibrated it (400m walk down the street, 400m jog back) and went on 2 runs (of fast walks when it became too difficult) over a couple of days.
Syncing it with the nike website enabled the display of graphs showing my runs and how I was losing pace steadily over the distance.
What really impressed was the ability to draw my route on a google map in the nike website and link it to my runs. The distance came out at 3.25 km and the sport kit had calculated my runs to be around 3.29 km which is alot more accurate than I was expecting.
I have no idea how usefull this is to someone who considers themselves a serious runner. Me, I can't wait to see the graphs, times, and average pace steadily improve. A fantastic motivation boost, just what I wanted.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   March 25, 2008
I love this gadget!

The hardest part of running is getting out of the door. Always has been for me, and running on your own can be incredibly boring. I purchased myself an iPod Nano, the Nike + trainers and Nike + kit and an 'Action Jacket' for the iPod and its far more enjoyable, listening to music the ipod on your arm and a click of the centre button on your nano gives you feed backon your run performance. Uploading tot he Nike + site is easy, although works better with ie than firefox and allows you to set specific goals and keeps track of them for you.

Makes my runs more entertaining and takes away the distance guess work. It also allows you to do runs of time or distance or just run until you click stop. The power song you set yourself and holding the centre button plays your selected song for that extra motivation. Apparently Eye of the Tiger from Rocky 3 is the current top Powersong :-)

Very cool.

5 out of 5 stars so far so good....   January 11, 2008

I began running a few months ago. I got an ipod nano for my Christmas from my partner and the sports kit and pouch (which is also very good) from my parents. As I've been building up my running sessions, I really wanted something reliable to assess and record my ability and 'keep score'. This does the trick.
Yes, this is an early review as I've only had the gear since Christmas but so far it's worked very well. I also like the fact that you can callibrate it to your own pace and you can access the Nike website where you can upload your running times, etc.
It's so simple to use and not expensive to buy...so get running and enjoy! Well worth the money!
