Take two... July 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Originally bought a year or so ago it broke down recently, as verified with the WD drive checking software available at their website and was returned to WD UK for repair. Three weeks later I have received a replacement unit. Very pleased with WD's product and service. Less impressed with Amazon's customer service but I suppose that is the nature of cheap internet retail. Can't have it all! My Toshiba Tecra 8200 requires a double ended USB cable to provide additional power for the hdd which is a bit of a nuissance and an additional expense. I note the Lacie ehdd is supplied with the double ended USB cable. I would like to add another point relevant to this and other items too and it concerns fingerprints; wash your hands! ;-)
Simple and effective July 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent little piece of kit. Simple to use - no real installation as it sets itself up. I'm not particularly 'techy' so I don't know whether it's fast or not but it does all I want it to do - backing up pictures, documents etc. and with the included software you can take your own desktop images, programmes and work with you to use on any computer. Jolly clever.
Worth buying July 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Small and compact. Large capacity. Would not have purchased a smaller capacity model having used this one. Installation simple and fast. Used on a laptop and had no problems with power. Additional power lead is available if required. I use a USB1 port which seems fast enough. Take time with initial installation program, not all software supplied needs to be installed. Google software supplied is good but not essential. The WD sync software is fast, efficient and well worth loading. Makes backing up selected files fast and simple. Recommended.
Dont buy one of these July 2, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This must be the worse thing I have ever bought, nothing but problems, plug it in software installs then it just hangs and drive clicks away for ever with the pc seeing one minute but not the next.
"This Thing? Oh, I've Had It Ages!" July 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Amazon Prime is great, I ordered this Sunday and got it yesterday. It really is a gorgeous little drive. I plugged it straight into my Sony Vaio with Vista and the laptop recognized it straightaway, no hassles there.
As others have done I deleted the sync software that came with it and saved myself 250MB into the bargain.
I didn't get a carry case or anything but wish I had now. I've had this for less than a day and taking it out of my bag at work this morning the top of the case was covered with lots of tiny scratches, hence my review title, just in case the wife says "I've never seen that before"!
Its' a shame that it scratches so easily, but really it's the performance of the drive that matters and this performs beautifully. My advice would be to get a case of some kind, but if you don't it'll still do it's job well.
Very highly recommended.
