3 out of 5 stars One general fault, and Tribal don't read   March 20, 2008
A. Firminger (London UK)
On delivery the unit had no reception. The helpline could not solve this, they told me to maximise the signal, then when this failed they said the unit was faulty, send it back. Tribal UK quickly replaced it. The replacement was the same. I live within 3 km of the transmitter, I inserted 18 dB of attenuator, available from Maplins for GBP 10 and it now works excellently. 12 dB is not enough. I reported this to the supplier and they replied without reading the email.

5 out of 5 stars This changed my recording habits   March 1, 2008
John Spottiswoode (Southampton, UK)
I have had this for over a year now and I think that it is superb. It has changed our recording and viewing habits so our old video recorder is now never used. It has been totally reliable and the quality of the digital recordings is good, a big step up from the video. It is also easy and intuitive to use.

I only wish that I had gone for the bigger hard drive box so we could fit more recordings on to it.

We also use the pause and replay of programmes, as long as we remember to view through the Sagem receiver and not directly through the TV (which can show analogue and digital programmes).

This is the first time I have given 5 stars to a product. If it does eventually go wrong I would buy this again (with a bigger hard drive)

4 out of 5 stars good but not as good as they think   March 19, 2007

bought the little Sagem (80gb)at Argos a hundred and fifty quid first then after a month bought the bigger one(160gb), a hundred and sixty quid on Amazon off Hughes direct. they have both updated four times in the last six months and have worked fine if not a little noisy sometimes. the reason i have only gave it four stars is in the manufacturers description they say it will record two different channels at the same time! lie it will only do one.and it can be a pain if you want to record two different channels that finish and then the next one starts within 5 minutes. you have to change the recording settings. overall it is quite a good product if a bit expensive on Amazon. there are other sites a bit cheaper even Argos can have times sales etc... worth a buy.

4 out of 5 stars I have bought the 160G version of this.   January 20, 2007

I have bought the 160G version of this. The set up took me less than 1o minutes to do.
Very quiet , though, like any computer, you will hear the hard disk at work.
So far very reliable. One big issue is that the instruction manual is extremely useless. What a pity that they didn;t spend much effort getting that right. if you are reasonably techincally savvy, then you will figure everything out. otherwise i wouldn't buy one, becuase the manual will only confuse you.
