Good at the price. September 24, 2008 RIKI (U.K.) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ordered this Sunday, when my old Thomson box suddenly packed up,(wouldn't come out of standby), and arrived yesterday, so full marks for service. br / br /Set up so easy, just wire it up and switch on and just let it get on with it, doing its auto-search, etc. Now working fine. br / br /I had been tempted by the dearer Philips, but lack of technical information and previous bad experience with Philips products meant otherwise. We already have a Goodmans box on our upstairs telly, years old and still going strong, so decided to stick with Goodmans, despite some of the negative reviews. Anybody's whose went wrong shortly after installation must have just had a bad experience. br / br /For the money, it does every thing you want and only lacks some of the more advanced "features" of much more expensive boxes. They tend to be plagued with constant automatic software updates, which sounds fine, but in reality, is a nuisance. It interferes with your viewing, coming at any time, and sometimes stops the thing working altogether until you power off and on again! They should get it right in the first place before they release to market. Take note Thomson. It was after one of your automatic updates that my Thomson box packed up all together. br / br /A nice touch with this box is that there is a reset button on the back, which effectively acts like power on and off and also they even include a scart lead as well as an R.F. lead, so all you need to get going. br / br /Only downside is that they have got rid of the old stereo o/p jacks and replaced them with a digital music o/p, so it's alright if you have got a digital music system, but it can't be connected to an analogue system like mine, not that I want to. This is why I have not given it 5 stars.

Excellent product. br /Good value - comes with necessary patch cables (scart and TV co-ax). br /Very easy to follow instructions - set up is a doddle. br /Has the facility to scan for up-dated software. br /Works beautifully with indoor (amplified) t.v. antenna on old kitchen t.v. br /Crisp, clean images and good colour. Sound is marred by awful audio amp and speaker in the t.v., but there is a digital audio out socket on the box for a separate digital audio amp. (if you have one that is!!) br /Strongly recommended (although I cannot compare it to any other) for what is provided.
