 Easy to use October 6, 2008

This product was really easy to use, and I didn't have driver problems with older versions that other reviewers seemed to have. It even picked up my wireless signal in the garden (I live in a flat so this was quite a task).
The problem is that it overheats, and will show as being disconnected until it decides it wants to give me a connection again.

After reading all the reviews of this product I thought it would be the answer to my wireless needs as my pc doesnt have built in wireless capability. It was easy to install and set up, and for the first day it worked pretty well. I then noticed my pc would freeze randomly which it has never done in the 4 years I have owned it. I had the latest software for this product and even checked their website to prove this. I decided to buy an ethernet cable to go from the router to my pc even though it is 7metres away and goes across the room but after doing this and uninstalling the Edimax adapter the pc has worked perfectly with no more freezing and faster broadband. Also, when using the adapter it would not connect first time and I had to repair the connection a number of times before it synced up with the router and connected to the internet. I guess I will have to stick to wired broadband for the forseeable future as I have lost faith in wireless adapters.

After 2 hours with this beastie I gave up and reverted to my old Netgear wireless lan adaptor. I bought this because we have a large stone built house and the upstairs bedroom had a very weak signal with the Netgear. After dowloading the vista drivers and setting it up, it detected my network, but would not connect to the internet. The signal was much weaker than the netgear adaptor, and just wouldn't connect.
I am a fairly experienced user having set up a wireless network with mixed vista and XP, 3 PCs a laptop and an Xbox. But I just could not get this piece of kit to work.
So I reverted back to the netgear so at least I have a connection.

This is a great value for money product. It was loaded and running within minutes.It has worked faultlessly since I bought it over six months ago and the transfer rate is good. It is a bit weird looking but don't let that put you off.Installed on PC running XP.

The Good:
This wifi card has a great range on it. My previous card could connect @ 18mbps max, only if orientated perfectly. This card happily connects to my network @ 36mbps. Very good considering there are two entire floors and the card is on the opposite side of the house to the router. The connection has been quick and stable since installation.
The installation itself was only marred by the lack of Vista drivers on the CD, otherwise it went smoothly.
The Bad:
No Vista drivers supplied on CD. These were available on Edimax's website though, and were easily downloaded.
The supplied USB extension lead isn't perfect. The dongle has a tendancy to come loose, and thus render it unusable. However, if it were to remain static, this would not be a problem.
Verdict:
An excellent and cheap solution to home wireless networking where extended range matters.
