Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Clever and robust, the flexible tripod Gorillapod from Joby will transform your digital camera in a true ruggedize tool.Indeed, way more flexible than those classical, rigid tripods, the Gorillapod does not need a plane surface to take perfect pictures. The flexible feet can be deformed to adapt any obstacle or even to enroll or hold any support on a small surface. The Gorillapod can adapt any situation and will thus be the perfect companion for your digital camera!Universal interface: 1/4-20.

5 out of 5 stars Use that self-timer!   September 1, 2008
This is the Gorillapod for a compact camera.
Although most compact cameras have a tripod socket this is invariably at one end of the body and they feel unstable with some of the small tripods sold for use with a compact camera. This isn't a problem for the Gorillapod as you can bend the legs to make the camera nice and stable. The Gorillapod is more than an ordinary tripod though, I've wrapped it around the banisters in a restaurant to take a group photo and wrapped it around a fence post for outdoor shots. Handy for night shots too where the longer exposure time means jitter is a problem.
You do need a coin to screw the removable adapter plate to the camera and you need to know how to switch the self-timer on. It's small and light, I carry mine in a jacket pocket.

5 out of 5 stars This should be in every serious photographer's camera bag   August 8, 2008

What a wonder this little thing is! Its so easy to use, so versatile and I have found so many uses for it.

Don't believe what others have said about it being too light and flimsy. They could be talking about this one's little siblings, but the SLR Zoom Gorillapod can easily support the weight of my Nikon D80 with 18 - 135mm zoom leans attched.

It also supports the weight of my Canon HG10 camcorder with an optional Canon wide angle lens attached to it, a lens that is very, very heavy. I haven't wrapped it around a pole with the Canon attached yet, only used it as a tripod on the ground, as it may fall off the pole with the weight of the Canon lens, but it has no problem supporting the weight of the Nikon D80 while wrapped around a pole.

I also use it as a grip with the Canon HG10, placing one leg against my chest and holding another leg with my left hand. I have found this produces much steadier shots than just holding the camcorder by itself.

I'm sure to find many more uses for this great little gizmo. Its also so light that it adds no real weight to my carry on luggage for budget flights that have a 10 kg weight limit. (If you know who I mean!)

5 out of 5 stars Great, but needs a tripod head   July 29, 2008

Once you get out of the mindset that this is a mini-tripod, and start wrapping it around trees, this little beauty really comes into it's own. However, when it is wrapped around a tree, you'll need to point the camera in the right direction. For this i recommend a small ball head, so as not to foul on your tree of choice. Small enough to fit in a moderate-sized camera bag, too.

The GorillaPod is amazing. So far it has held up my camera perfectly when sideways, on uneven surfaces and even upside-down! The legs rotate 360 degrees and can bend and twist into near any shape you would ever need to use. It fits on the camera with a small screw (so if you have a small hole in the bottom of your camera this is what it's for). Extremely fast service, product in perfect condition, the only thing I could complain about is the locking switch ,designed to inhibit the quick release switch, would not turn. However it was debateable how much I would of used this feature. Thouroughly deserves 5 stars.

not a bad product, but could be improved.
suction pad is only for a tripod-screw-less mobile phone for example and isn't exactly strong.
would have been nice to have a suction pad for a window instead.
grippy feet are good for wrapping around things but no good on your car's dash - unless it's made of wood or leather! slides all over the place on mine, so useless for a gps as illustrated in the advert.
carry some blu-tac with you perhaps! :)
