4 out of 5 stars Could do better   September 24, 2008

I bought this machine a couple of months ago and although basically it works well the freeview recordings leave a lot to be desired, poor quality replay I have found, having had Sagem before I always had excellent playback, but this at times was difficult to watch, so I am discarding it and buying a sony.

5 out of 5 stars Very good choice   September 16, 2008

I brought this to go with my 32" 1080I tv . I am very impressed by the picture quality of the freeview of the box. Ok it doesn't have a twin tuner to allow "record at the same time as watching a different channel" but it gives you the option to select a different time/date when the programme is repeated. Most people are so bloody arrogant these days they expect everything as if they're royalty.

Considering my tv is only 1080i (I have it set on 720p because it's better) and is a cheap Tesco own brand Technika, I wasn't expecting much in the way of a decent up-conversion on dvds, but WOW I am shocked, Daniel Craigs Casino Royale looks AWESOME, almost exactly like blu-ray, can't tell the difference. In fact every dvd I've tried, bear those cheap poor quality world cup highlight dvds looks exceptional.

Eventually I think I'll buy a larger TV, perhaps 42 inch Panasonic tv as it may look even better.

Only gripes is the lack of a twin tuner (read above, doesn't really bother me) the slightly eye-sore advertising on the freeview programme screen and no USB port.

Apart from the above, a very good investment :)

Highly recommend.

This is my 3rd dvd recorder having previously bought a Lite-on (expensive at the time) and a cheap Cello model when that broke down. Neither lasted more than 2 years before developing problems.

This time I done some research and panasonic seems to be the brand of the moment so thought I'd give this a try.

It is really slimline and lightweight compared to my previous tanks and the setup was quick and painless too.

I use Sky so I was a bit dubious about the compatibility etc, this model seemed to be geared towards freeview wiht integrated digital tuner and guideplus. Wow! was I surprised, it has a 'ext-l' mode that basically turns the thing into a Skyplus box (albeit with only 1 tuner). I just open the sky guide select what I want to record, hit autoview, and hey presto the recorder does everything else, even switches itself off after it's finished. The added bonus over Skyplus being I can record my favourite shows/films from the hard drive to dvd later on if I want.

Recording from hdd to dvd is also easy as pie. I just stuck Rush Hour 3 onto a dvd for mum in less than 3mins, and practically no noticable loss in quality. Awsome.

It has a myriad of other functions that noobs like me take no notice of, but it does exactly what I want. I hit ext-l, and the only remote I need to touch for the next week is the sky one.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and fantastic picture quality   September 10, 2008

Plugged this into my Panasonic 42" HD TV and was amazed by the picture quality of the recordings. Very easy to set up and use. The other big wow factor is the Upconversion of normal DVDs to 1080p the difference in quality is very noticeable. So much so that I I've stopped buying the more expensive Bluray disks for my PS3.

The only negatives are that there is no HDMI lead in the box and that the manual is a bit confusing, which seems to be a Panasonic trait.

dvd that has no twin tuner therefore can only watch the channel you are recording, picture is good quality. Best buying a stand alone dvd and pvr as it would cost the same and would be more effective. TV guide has annoying adverts taking up a quarter if the guide. Pretty poor overall
