Great Bargain Price DVD Player June 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having been very happy with Toshiba products in the past- a microwave oven which finally had to be replaced after 24 years and my Toshiba rear projection tv, I decided to replace my Phillips player which died exactly one week after the 12 month expiry. As I have a huge collection of dvds from diferent regions, the first port of call was the multi-region hack. This was accomplished in seconds. The box says that it will play dvd-r's that are recorded on a dvd recorder but might not play others. However it plays the several PC recorded dvd-r's I've so far tried perfectly. Highly recommended. I just hope Toshiba are still building their products with the same durability I've come to expect and appreciate.
Toshiba SD280E - DVD Player June 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Good little player. Excellent picture and sound quality on standard shop bought DVDs. Easily converts to multi-region as reported by other reviewers so I can play my 30+ DVDs sourced in the USA. Does struggle with DVDs from other recorders though. DVD-Rs can 'jump' and sometimes pixelate. Warning! this player will NOT play DVD-RW 'VR' or DVD-RAM discs. So all the discs I created and edited to remove the adverts, will not play. I confirmed this with Toshiba technical support. Still a nice well-built player for the money though.
Can't fault it for the price June 18, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've had this player all of five hours but so far it has delivered everything I've wanted from it... good Divx playback and multi-region via a handset hack ( Power On > Open Tray > Press 98790 (the "0" here stands for multi-region, you can replace this last digit with 1 to 6 if you want to choose a specific region). It even has component outputs and progressive scan, though I haven't had the chance to check out performance using that (which is why I'm holding one star back :-). It's only going to be used for casual viewing and with that in mind I'm very pleased.
Bargain DVD April 25, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Wont add too much to what has already been said, suffice to say it ticks all the boxes and for 30 one of the cheapest around. I would mention that when mine arrived, the box it was in did not mention it was DVD+r/rw compatable only DVD-r/rw despite saying on the website that it was. Thankfully it plays all types! Must just be a packaging error!
Does the job... April 22, 2008 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
If you are not after top-of-the-range DVD player with HDMI upscaling go for this one but bear in mind that the price reflects its abilities. It played my DivX movies brilliantly, as well as the rest of my DVD's.The quality of the music coming out from this player is just right. Do not expect any extras. The display can only show the number of the chapter when playing DVD's and it also has a limited buffer memory when playing your pictures, therefore if you store your "precious moments" on DVD discs do expect that it can only display about 1000 images in less than 256 folders and cannot display files larger than 10 MB (info from Toshiba helpline, who by the way were really helpful and responded to my query within two days). You can also make this little player play your discs from different regions by using the same hack as used in Toshiba SD-270E.
