5 out of 5 stars Top quality BBC film making   March 28, 2008
Steven Lamont
I remember being extremely impressed with the quality of the broadcast while watching this series when it was first transmitted. Having just recieved this HD DVD version I can honestly say that it is the finest piece of HD material I have ever witnessed. There are no flaws or glitches whatsover viewed through my Toshiba EP30. Aside from the technical aspects it is a fantastically informative documentary as you would come to expect from the makers of the Planet Earth series. With Breathtaking photography which, in my opinion has set a new benchmark in natural history film making. br /Lets just hope that the relevant parties take note of the level of interest in the HD DVD format and that material of this quality will still be available for the forseeable future. Lets face it there are a lot of HD DVD players out there with a lot of customers willing to pay for material and I think the programme producers would be foolish to ignore this market. br / Also top marks to Amazon once again for incredible service.

5 out of 5 stars The best HD title ever produced?   December 22, 2007

In terms of visual quality, YES. Shot entirely in 1080 HD video at 30 frames per second, this makes 'Planet Earth' look like a juddery, grainy mess. There is not a single bad shot in the whole series, every scene is smooth as silk, beautifully lit composed, and as sharp as your screen can produce. Viewed at 1080P using Full Pixel mode (Bravia LCD) it is startlingly clear...pausing any close-up shot gives you an image that looks like a National Geographic photo. br / br /The actual content is not as impressive or interesting as 'Planet Earth', but it comes a close second. br / br /However, after watching this you will undoubtedly be left wishing that Planet Earth (and any other current HD-DVD, to be honest) could have looked this good. If you want to impress people with your new HD-DVD player, you have to own this. br / br /

The material is excellent. Is it a little expensive? Not when You compare what You get.150 minutes of Galapagos exploration. Under the sea. Over the sea on all the islands. Of their geology, Darwins visit, birds, reptiles, turtles. Everything. br /When You have seen the film, You have "been to Galapagos", and is able to take part in a diskussion about is on equal foot as a tourist that has been there. Only-You have seen more than him.;-) br /It is 1080i-no artifacts in the film-perfect! From land, under the sea and from the air.LPCM stereo. Subtitles only english for the Hearing Impaired. That is a minor weakness, as the pictures speak for themselves. br /When my son comes I shall present the HD-DVD player with this film.;-)
