5 out of 5 stars 18 months on and still going strong....   March 5, 2008

Well I have heard varying reports on Dyson, never middle of the road and like marmite I guess, love them or hate them! I thought I would try one out and glad I did. br / br /Had mine for 18 months now and have to say it is brilliant, keep it maintained and it just keeps sucking. I really cant fault it to be honest in terms of cleaning ability and with a five year guarantee you cant go wrong. This model in particular is fantastic for getting up hairs and stuff you cant see. 5 ***** from me.

My, it has been a coming of age middle class dream to be the proud owner of a Dyson! Now, finally, I am married, and have a Jack Russell all over the house, and I have a proper job, so it was time to buy that Dyson - the Animal one! br / br /The thing is, it is sooooo clever a design, it is almost too clever. Over-designed. A bit gadgetty. I already got the skin of my hand caught in the telescopic handle twice! br / br /It also is as heavy as them vaccuum cleaners come, so that certainly puts a lid on happy household chores. br / br /And then the suction: I am not convinced. In retrospect, I think I should have gone for an industrial vaccuum cleaner, at less than half the price. br / br /O and the NOISE! My animal is scared to death of this machine! br / br /It's not bad, but not as good as I expected.

4 out of 5 stars Good cleaner   August 17, 2007

I bought a DC08 Animal to replace my DC05 which was getting through too many motorised brush heads. br /With space at a premium in most households (mine included) the selling point for me was the telescopic facility which allows the cleaner to be stored easily in a small space, without having to break it down into sections like the DC05. br /The 5 year warranty is a big improvement on previous Dyson customer back up and rectifies a previous criticism that has been levelled at the company from consumers and groups like the Consumer's Association. br / br /The DC08 carries on Dyson's strong reputation on actual cleaning power and deals with most surfaces in the way that Dyson cleaners usually do i.e. to clean very well. On hard surfaces, such is the suction power, that it actually lifts the lino off the floor. As far as carpets go, it deals tends to deal them with quickly and effectively for the most part. br /On the not so good side, pet hair on very deep pile carpet though will sometimes need repeat vacuuming to remove. The unit is noticeably heavier than the DC05 too and I could imagine some people finding this awkward. br /Like all Dysons, the dust container fills very quickly because of the suction power but the good news here is that it is much easier to release, empty, and put back on. As opposed to the dust container on the DC05 which could be a nightmare at times, frankly. br / br /I like the cleaner overall but the only issues that keep it off getting 5 stars are its weight and not so great vacuuming of pet hairs over very deep pile carpets. br /Otherwise it performs admirably.

5 out of 5 stars A Powerful Animal   August 9, 2007

We sadly replaced an excellent long lived Miele Cat Dog vacuum cleaner and after reading many reviews decided to go for the Dyson TW Animal. The machine is somewhat bizarre looking but its powerful and efficient suction well makes up for that. It copes admirably with carpets covered in Yellow Labrador hairs, needing only a couple of passes over with the large turbine head, and has left our carpets looking more dog free than they have ever!

4 out of 5 stars Marmite (love it or hate it)   July 2, 2007

People seem to treat dysons like marmite - love them or hate them. My household generates a fair amount of dirt - two kids and 2 dogs, but it was the recent introduction of a cat that made me change my vacuum from a long standing Miele. br / br /As I knew as many people who'd had a dyson and were disappointed as I did those whoraved about them, I was hesitant to pay the premium and try it. First we tried a Hoover that was allegedly designed for pet owners, lifetime HEPA filters etc - bought from tescos for 80. Absolute rubbish. I could have picked up more dirt and hair by sucking through a drinking straw. It also sounded like a jumbo jet taking off. br / br /Bit the bullet and invested in this Dyson. Absolutely stunned by how good it is. The end of the nozzle is great on both hard floors and carpets, and the suction is so powerful that the variable power control trigger is a great idea. The true test was the amount of dirt and hair it picked up from our house, the afternoon after we'd done the whole place with the Hoover. Just incredible. Exceptionally easy to empty too. br / br /Why 4 stars and not 5? Well, despite the clever telescopic nozzle, it's actually quite bulky and a bit of a pain to wrap up and store. It's also not cheap either, but given it has a 5 year warranty, if it continues to perform this well for that long, it's money well spent.
