3 out of 5 stars Great Suction - but no good on edges   May 18, 2008
DT (Staffordshire UK)
The suction on the DC14 is the best ever. It picks up more dirt than my old Dyson. The suction is so strong that the vacuum cleaner is not advised to use on rugs with fringed edges. It will eat up the carpet fringes and make a loud piercing noise. br / br /The vacuum cleaner is not good along edges. It's base is so big that it won't get under radiators and kitchen cupboards. You have to use the tool attachments. The use of the tools is awkward and slows down the process of vacuuming. br / br /The machine is very heavy to cart up the stairs as well as heavy to operate. br / br /If it wasn't for the fantastic suction, I would get a different machine. I just don't understand why Dyson has to make the machine so awkard to operate.

5 out of 5 stars A beast of a hoover!   April 2, 2007

I have bought bagless hoovers before and they have often been quite a pain to properly empty, this is not the case with the Dyson it was the simplest thing in the world to empty it. br / br /The normally dull and laborious chore of hovering the houe was turned in to a simple 5 minute job as this hoover glided across the floor leaving a carpet that hadn't been hoovered for 2 weeks before look brand new! br / br /This is a fantastic hoover that despite being very efficient at picking up dust and even larger items with ease is not even slightly awkward to push around the room! br / br /Buy this hoover and you will certainly not regret it!

After buying and wasting my money on a bagless-I was desparate to find a cleaner that would do just that! After reading reviews on Amazon I made the decision to buy the Dyson-So glad I did! Made a huge difference to my carpets. Easy to empty, easy to clean and did I mention what a difference its made to my carpets!

5 out of 5 stars Don't think about it, do it.   August 16, 2006

Dysons are expensive, there's no getting away from that, but they are still great value for money. br / br /18 months ago: Being a bit tight I didn't want to pay Dyson money for a vacuum cleaner so I bought a Morphy Richards Bagless. It couldn't be that much worse surely! Well, the signs weren't good when i tested it brand new out of its box back to back with my mother's Dyson DC03. It didn't pick nearly as well as the Dyson. From that point onwards it was much the same, it didn't pick up well even on max suction and anything much above minimum suction it would overheat and shutdown after only 1-2 rooms. br / br /Today - The DC14 All Floors arrived and I pressed it straight into service. Its got some nice features but the most important thing is it actually cleans, fantastically well infact. The carpets have NEVER been as clean. br / br /What am I trying to say then - well, don't be tight like i was, I wasted 100 on rubbish before buying a Dyson. Just spend the cash, you won't regret it!

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic but still room for improvement   April 25, 2006

This is my first Dyson and I have to say that I am really impressed. What I had trouble finding when I was researching a hoover to buy was a comparison chart. Unfortunately, I only bought the DC14 Allergy so I can't do a comparison between this and the Hoover H1 which is probably the closest competitor. I highly recommend emptying the cylinder every time before you use it. I never liked hoovering but now that I can see the amount of dirt I take out of the house every time I do it all the time! I've only found three big negative issues with the DC14 Allergy: br / br / * An extremely loud ratchet noise when the beater catches a snag. I jump every time it happens. A better slip mechanism would be greatly appreciated. br / * The hose isn't strong enough to support itself against the high level of suction. You absolutely must use an attachment on the hose end or it will catch on something and then compress instantly. This usually results in the Dyson being quickly toppled onto its side. br / * If you don't turn the DC14 off and return it to the upright position, the suction goes through the attachment tube that is still attached to the base. This makes a bit of a whistling sound and will grab hold of any loose clothing you might be wearing. br / br /Overall, I'd recommend it but there is still room for improvement in the world of vacuum cleaner design.
