5 out of 5 stars Best toaster ever   November 16, 2008
Paul (Manchester, UK)
This is the most original and coolest toaster on the planet. I can't believe how cheap it is for what you get. br /A 150 dualit doesn't even pop toast up when it's done, it just burns it. This 30 toaster rather sexily lowers and raises your bread silently and smoothly, the only noise it makes ever is a soft beep to tell you its done.

5 out of 5 stars ...and the toast tastes good too!   November 5, 2008

Bought this a month ago after our ancient previous model caught fire! Incredibly fussy partner agreed to give this one a go, and we love it. It looks great; the way the bread slides smoothly out of view is a real talking point for our guests; the 'nearly ready' beep and the 'keep it warm' function are handy; but best of all, the toast tastes like real toast should: crisp on the outside, moister inside! I really had forgotten that toast is actually supposed to taste good, not like emery boards. What a relief to rediscover the joy of breakfast! br /It is a bit slow, and I've never used the bagel function as I dislike bagels, but all in all it's a great buy for 30, and doesn't take up a great deal of kitchen space. If you want an incredibly good-looking gizmo that that does all that it promises, then this is IT.

I bought this as it looked good, wanted something reliable with good reviews and at a good price. Let's just say that i am certainly not dissapointed. br / br /I tracked the item and came on time and on the face of it worth every penny. br / br /At the touch of the button the bread decends into the toaster, 8 seconds before it's reasy there's a beep and then watch as the bread rises. No spring mechanisim to mess around with to trap the bread in and then springing up and you have to catch the toast in the air. br / br /I've been using Wharbatons thin and medium from frozen. The toaster defaults to setting 3, so all i did was hit the freeze button i.e. to toast from frozen. The toast came out perfect and nicely brown. I've also done it using fresh bread and again the toast is perfect and brown. br / br /I've not used any other features yet, like the "Keep Warm", but i'm betting everything works well. br / br /Buy this and you won't be dissapointed. br / br /BTW - there's no on/off button, so you have to make sure you always turn it off at the mains, otherwise the toasting light is always on and is just wasting energy. Don't be put off by this!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best toaster I've owned   September 26, 2008

I've owned the "classic" 4-slice Dulait toaster for the past 10 years which, to be fair, is a heck of a long time and only two elements have gone (but boy are they costly to replace). Well, it was as the second element failed that I began to look around and I saw this one on Amazon and read the excellent reviews. I popped it in my saved basket as I tend to do whilst contemplating a purchase. I was delighted therefore last week to find the price reduced to about the same, or slightly less, than the cost of repairing my Dualit. I ordered it and, as is the case with Amazon, it came really quickly, even on free Supersaver delivery. The old faithful is now safely stored in my loft "just in case"(I can still use the two outside slots as it's only an inner element that's gone) but, as I see it, I have little, if anything,to lose by this experiment. br / br /My new toaster is smaller and much cooler looking than the Dualit. It has self adjusting slots so, at last, I can toast crumpets, bagels etc without having to use the grill. On the subject of bagels, it even has a special setting which toasts the inners more than the outers. br / br /On a busy morning (ie most days)I get on with things whilst the toast is doing. This is why the keep warm function is superb for me as it keeps coming on and off to warm up the toast until you come back into the room and select the "give it up" button! br / br /I love its lights, it's appearance, it's "nearly ready" beep and the warming rack for my croissants. Breakfast is now a luxury experience! Buy one, you won't regret it, especially for 30. br / br /And by the way, the instructions say it can toast just one slice - a very rare feature I find.

5 out of 5 stars "Techno Toaster"   September 20, 2008

If Wallace Grommit can have 'Techno' trousers, then this is a 'Techno' toaster! br /I can honestly say this toaster produced the best toast I have ever eaten. The toast comes out very hot, and in fact warmed up the cold plate I put it on, it stayed crispy and crunchy even when buttered. Unlike the toast toasted by my gas cooker, or from electric toasters I have used over the past 30 years. br /The toaster is very easy to use, there is no lever to push down (which gets more difficult to do as you get older), you press a button and the toast disappears as if by magic! It shows you the progress of toasting on the front so there is no need to guess either! br /You won't regret buying this toaster, it's excellent value for the results it produces, it has style, and great also because it is compact taking up a small space on the countertop! br /
