4 out of 5 stars Very good for the money   November 18, 2008

Nice looking kettle that works well, boils the water quickly, and is very reasonably priced.

As this kettle was one of Which?'s best buys, I bought it to replace my rapidly breaking-up old one. As a basic kettle it works well: it boils quickly so doing what a kettle is supposed to! However there are a number of points that stop this being a really good buy: br /1: being metal the outside of this kettle gets very hot (unlike my former plastic one). If you want a metal body then there is not much that can be done about it (without, I guess, paying a lot more for additonal skins). br /2: the light indicating that the kettle is on is not very noticable (being small and dim); however as this is a very noisy kettle it is easy to tell when it is on! (so one drawback, that of noise, counters the lack of a really good visual "on" indicator). br /3: To fill the kettle the lid needs to be pulled off and this can be a little awkward as the handle is without any ridges. I particularly notice this if I have slightly damp hands (filling via the spout causes a degree of splash-back). br /4: The most annoying aspect however is that there is no external indication of how full the kettle is. br / br /All in all, though, if you want a cheap(ish) basic kettle this will serve - just bear in mind the contras when looking at alternatives.
