please note - no operating disc supplied October 7, 2008 A. Bennett (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
No problems with the computer but if you are going to surf you will know about viruses making a nuisance in operating systems and this laptop comes without the disc. I had never considered that any computer would be supplied without the disc. I have asked to change the laptop to a model provided with a disc
Great product and value October 6, 2008 Susie (Suffolk, UK) Acer Aspire 5715Z Notebook Laptop, Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 1.6GHz, 15.4" TFT, 2GB RAM, 80GB Hard-drive, DVD RW, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, WiFi, Vista Home Premium I was nervous about buying a laptop for my twins, aged 11 and ten year old. Although I use one myself I am a bit of a novice. However I've been delighted with this product. It was exceptional value, I managed to set it up in a short time, including very easy to use parental controls. Even linking it to the other laptop, printer and internet via wi-fi was made easy by on-screen instructions. have seen it written that it is not good for playing games on, but my children have already managed Flight Simulator and Harry Potter games without any difficulty. The laptop itself feels solid and looks good and the battery lasts well. My only criticism, and it has been made by other reviewers, is that the cursor doesn't always seem to be completely under control of the mouse ! Overall I have been extremely pleased with it as a simple, robust, easy to understand, good value laptop for general domestic, students etc.
Very Happy With It October 6, 2008 Stephen Macdonald 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had mine for close to a month and I'm very happy with it. I'm no Laptop expert, but I like this. It makes my five year old PC look like an antique. I mainly use it for the Internet and writing programs, so I haven't really tested it's full potential, but it hasn't shown any weakness in anything so far. It's easy to set up. I was connected wireless and online in minutes. It has a good build quality and looks good. For the price I would say it's a steal. I would definitely recommend it.
Good product for the money!! October 2, 2008 Mr. Alastair A. Kelly (Essex, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this laptop as a secondary computer as my Fiance and i would always argue over using the "main" computer as its connected to our TV for a monitor. After searching Amazon for a while i came across this one, at first the name put me off but some rapid "googleing" soon put my mind at ease. I ordered it and 2 days later it arrived in perfect condition. Since then we have had 3 months worth of fantastic performance (for a secondary PC). It is on for around 2-3 hours a day and although the battery isn't great the mains really isnt a problem. The screen is bright and adjustable the sound is OK but would suggest headphones are probably better. Overall i am very happy with it and have absolutely no regrets. A good all rounder!!
A couple of foibles but very good value for money September 30, 2008 Dean J. Marshall (Hants, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't expect much from a machine of this price but I have been pleasantly surprised by its quality and performance. The Acer has a few minor issues and I had to return it under warranty due to a display problem, but it was dealt with quickly and effectively. So if you are on a tight budget and want a reasonably specified dual core machine with 2 Gbytes of memory for under 300 then I think it is hard to beat. HOWEVER AFTER SURFING THE INTERNET I GOT THE SAME MACHINE WITH 4 GBYTES OF MEMORY FOR 302 POUNDS AND FREE DELIVERY, WHICH IS AN EVEN BETTER BARGAIN. The bottom line is that even with a few minor issues including a battery life of 2 hours it is recommended for the price. See below for more details. Build Quality and Design Looks ok but the plastic that is used, especially on the inside make it feel a little like a budget machine, however not unduly so. The Acer is a little heavier and larger than the more expensive machines but this is to be expected. The touch pad surface can occasionally lack sensitivity (licking ones finger then using the touch pad seems to solve the problem.) The screen display is very good for the price but it is highly reflective making viewing photos or video in direct sunlight a bit of a struggle. Specification I was finding it difficult to find a machine with 2Gbytes or more of memory for the price I was willing to pay so although the storage capacity is only 80 Gbytes I still think it is a good specification for the price. The machine came with Norton anti-virus, which I refuse to use so I had to uninstall Norton and buy another anti-virus package. This was my first experience of Vista and I have to say that Vista Home Premium seems fairly stable, however I am not a games player and this may cause additional problems. The wireless card and DVD read/writer work fine. At this price range you do not get low power components so the battery life is around two hours. In use The first thing I noticed was the display flickered and scrolled so I contacted Acer to get it repaired under Warranty and they arranged for collection and within a week my machine was returned fully repaired. Although this was a little inconvenient, the response from Acer and the price of the machine meant that it didn't put me off. I use my machine mainly for word processing and spreadsheet work, internet and photo editing using Photoshop. The Acer's performance for these tasks is very good for the price and in use it is quiet and seemingly reliable.
