4 out of 5 stars Works great with my Samsung CLP-315, XP 2000   August 23, 2008

I bought this particular model so that I could not just print wirelessly but also monitor the toner levels on my Samsung CLP-315 colour laser printer. I installed the software on my PC with Windows XP and laptop running Windows 2000. The printer wasn't listed as a compatible but I took a chance and it paid off. br / br /I used the software CD provided and it all went quite smoothly after a restart of the router so that it assigned the IP addresses properly. br / br /Overall I am very happy with this print server, and hopefully will save some money now my PC doesn't need to be on all the time. I have put the print server and printer on a plug-in timer so hope to cut down the standby power usage even further.

3 out of 5 stars Works well - with downloaded software   August 18, 2008

I bought this product on the basis of Hampshire Lad's review, as I have a similar setup - a PC laptop both running XP, a laptop running Vista and a Canon Pixma ip4500 printer. My installation experience, however, was not that smooth and I nearly gave up - but I did finally get it all working and my/my children's computers can now print wirelessly and get printer status info (ink levels, paper out, etc). To save other purchasers having the same problems I encountered, here are a few tips: br /1) Before you start installing the print-server software, INSTALL THE PRINTER ON EACH COMPUTER! br /2) For XP Vista users, DON'T USE THE SUPPLIED INSTALLATION CD! Download the latest XP or Vista driver software from the Edimax website. (when downloaded, just click on it to run it) br / br /You will certainly need the latest XP driver if, like me, you have some "limited" user accounts (i.e. non-administrator account). If you use the (older)driver on the supplied CD, those users will not be able to run the print server software. br /The Quick Installation booklet that comes in the box should be enough to get you set up XP Vista (though no mention of Vista in the book). br / br /I only gave 3 stars because the supplied software is so out of date, the supplied booklet does not mention Vista, and the manuals / guides on the Edimax site only add to the confusion. However, if you follow the above tips, and are ok with downloading the drivers, it should work o.k. br /Not for the computer novice, though.

5 out of 5 stars Works Out Of The Box   July 12, 2008

Not being a computer expert I approached the installation with a certain amount of trepidation, however I shoudn't have worried. br /I followed the clear, step by step instructions to the letter and the installation was a breeze. My Canon iP4500 is now being shared by 2 laptops and a PC, 2 running Windows XP and 1 Vista. br /The only minor problem I encountered was a conflict with my firewall, Zone Alarm, which was easily solved by uninstalling and reinstalling Zone Alarm.

Excellent product. Works happily with Windows Vista. Very easy install, very clear manual. No problems at all, although it is better if printer is already set up on computer by cable beforehand. Heartily recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Edimax multifunction print server rocks!   October 25, 2007

I bought the Edimax PS-1206MFG with a degree of scepticism, after having read so many reviews about cheap SOHO multifunction printer server interfaces that just weren't compatible with many all-in-one devices. br / br /The Edimax is wireless or 10/100 Ethernet wired (it selects automatically), and has solved all of my USB printer/scanner/card reader sharing problems in one hit, and if my printer had fax capabilities, I'm pretty damn sure they would work too - I now use 2 wireless laptops and a wired desktop, all of which can do all functions! br / br /It's smaller than a ciggy packet, and mega-easy to install. I opted to install my Canon MP510 drivers and OEM software by individually connecting each PC by USB as if stand alone - that way you know your drivers are in and running. br / br /Then it's simply a matter of hooking the PS-1206 to the USB printer and into my LAN router (wired at first) and installing the setup utility from the CD provided. (It installs a neat soft "server scanner" that finds the PS-1206 whatever it's default IP. Then set the usual stuff; name; description; and a suitable static IP to suit your LAN. br / br /For printing only , this is pretty much it - on each PC, go into the printer and assign a new TCPIP port to match the PS-1206 (follow the Quick Setup Booklet provided) and away you go! br / br /For scanning, faxing, card reading functions, you need one step further - set up the MFP Server software on each PC - this then auto-installs all of the device drivers as if you had directly connected. You must run the background MFP every time you need to scan, fax, etc. br / br /My only criticism? Printing is fast wired or wireless, but wireless 804.11g scanning and card reading through the MFP Server is quite slow (it does work though) - I personally have the PS-1206 unit wired to my hub - this makes it 4 times as fast, even though I might be using a wireless laptop to do it. br / br /Final thought: Check out the Edimax website and download their .pdf of compatible printers before you commit to buy.
