5 out of 5 stars Best family camera out there!   August 9, 2007

I reccomended this camera to my mum, after my sister got back from Berlin. She was using this Canon Ixus 700, and the results from her snappings of the Reichstag and many other things, were stunning. And these were displayed on our 28" TV. br /7 megapixels to me, are about all you need for a camera, for the family anyway. I feel so silly now knowing our previous camera was an obsolete 2 megapixel Olympus. These days, mobile phones have better camera's! But the 6-7 megapixel range is probably the best, for value at least. With ability to zoom into pics and still retain quality, you know your going to get a perfect picture everytime. And for a few pence a Tescos, who cant? br /The package is small but suprisingly well arranged, with the usual things such as your charger, to a rather nice leather case. Their are enough leaflets and intructions to make a fool out of you if you could work out how to use this! br /But thats just the thing - this really is a simple camera, yet with many options/modes that are appealing. Nicely so, the modes can be switched via the top dial, from normal camera mode, to an excellent quality video mode. Switch on via the button, and your presented in the mode the dial is turned to, and the menu layout is excellent. You can even choose the noises the camera makes, and the theme of the menu! The screen present on the back is a perfect size for such a small camera, and excellent quality too. br /The build quality and feel of the camera is second to none too - just what I expect from Canon. Whats more, its got some weight to it, so not only do you feel the quality, but your more confident when taking pictures. br /I don't really have any negative things to say. The only thing I would say is that the silver finish can wear on places, but this is expected with alot of use, and in no ways affects performance. Probably more important though, is that this camera is now discontinued! Boo-hoo! br /What more can I say? If you get the chance, buy this camera! It's all you'll ever need.

Excellent camera. I did extensive research over a few months before settling on this camera. Im not an expert but want expert looking photos! The Ixus 700 gives me this and more. If you want a camera small enough to fit in your pocket but with the capability to print large photos when you get that memorable shot of the special occasion that warrants an 8 x 12 photo frame this is the one for you. It looks great, is easy to use and, in the hands of a complete novice, produces photos you will be really chuffed with. Yes, the experts amongst us, who should really be reviewing SLR's that are twice the price, will say this is not right or that is not right but don't forget.....this is a point and shoot camera for people who want holiday snaps and photos of family weddings/their favorite pet,etc,etc... NOT pro photographers.

The pocket size camera is excellent for looks, quality and quick snap and shoot when on the move, not to forget the Macro function too.pThe software supplied allows to select all fotos and at a single press of a button removes photos with the red eye problems in low lighting conditions.pTwo settings are available for taking video with sound, the higher the setting the better the moving quality and virtually no loss of resolution when you have a proII memory card so it can write/read quickly. 1GB card records continous 8minutes of higher quality recording . This pictures is digital quality similar to largers handheld cam corders except it lacks the quality in the sound area, and its the best movie quality over earlier models or for that fact other snap and shoot products on the market when this model came out.brI generally have short 1 minutes clips and then can edit this (within the camera) to make the best of the moments.pThere is also a manual setting for fast action/kidds playing snaps which i find adequate, but obviously not to Pro cameras standards.pStart up is quick and the self timer set with multiple pictures option was fun to use whilst i was on the Alps.

3 out of 5 stars Red Eye Problem   October 20, 2005

Great little camera. Could do better in the optical zoom area, other cameras this price can go as high as 5Xoptical rather than the standard 3, but you would have to compromise on size for that thou. A bit difficult to handle if you have big hands. My main complaint is the major problem it has with dealing with red eye. I have tried in all sorts of situations and have the problem every time. Fed up of ringing people up to ask what colour eyes they have for doing red eye correction on my PC! If you can afford it and want to go for a Canon I would recommend the Ixus 750.

4 out of 5 stars Good camera but could do better.   October 4, 2005

Very aesthetically pleasing and compact. Intuitive menu system, feature setup and a good LCD. Beauty is more than skin deep for this camera. The 7.1 mega pixel CCD combined with the zoom lens, give crisp results (in the right conditions). It has a quick start up time too. So, no missed opportunities with this little gadget. The camera offers many different size photos too. From a huge 3072x2304 to 640x480 and a few others inbetween.pThe motion capture facility is very good and records good sound too although a little tinny at high frequencies. pRemember to buy a large memory card, the 32MB may not be enough.pPersonally I reached the limit of the 3x zoom lens very quickly. A higher zoom factor would have been good, at this price point it is achieved by other cameras. However, this is compensated by the digital zoom.pThe AI focus facility is a mixed blessing, although this can be disabled in favour of standard focus.pIf you're intending to take this camera into a place where flash-photograph maybe prohibited. Then look else where. This model I found has focusing issues when the flash is disabled. I have yet to get a decent result indoors without a flash. For these shots I still use my analogue SLR.pWith that said I would still recommend this camera.
