1 out of 5 stars Absolute Rubbish   September 29, 2008
I am at a loss to know why Belkin are still selling this product. It has not worked propely from day one. I have tried all of the suggested "fixes" and none have worked. It has been used with 2 PC's and 2 Laptops, all with XP, which I think is giving it a good trial. The results have been the same. Belkin technical advice is non existant. Please do yourself a favour and do not buy this product. Try the Edimax EW-7318 USG.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - ignore Belkins own software   September 3, 2008
I have had this for over a year now (version 4) and it has been superb, constantly picking up a perfect signal no matter what computer I connect it to.

I only installed the device driver and ignored Belkin's own wireless software. Can't fault it.

Being new to broadband i thought it was my fault it wouldnt work with 02 broadband, after several days of intermittent connection and as previous people have said about 30 mins of diagnostics before it would even attempt to connect i checked amazon. what a relief - its going straight back to pc world tomorrow. DONY BUY THIS

5 out of 5 stars Works perfectly   June 24, 2008
Bought one of these despite all the bad reviews and my gamble paid off. Bearing in mind other peoples installation hassles i firstly installed it using the supplied software and unsurprisingly it didn't work. So i simply set it up using Windows wireless network wizard-inputting the required information manually and it immediatly worked perfectly. i think thats the problem most people are having- that they didn't let Windows recognise the new hardware properly before they gave up. Absolutely nothing wrong with this piece of kit!!

4 out of 5 stars FOLLOW WAYNE STOC K'S ADVICE!!   May 28, 2008
As Far as I can tell, the software package this comes with is complete unbelievable junk. However, if you use this with microsoft's own wireless network connection facility (instructions below)It works BRILLIANTLY, with no dropping of signal etc for normal internet useage (not sure about games etc). DON'T INSTALL THE RUBBISH BELKIN SOFTWARE; just use the beautiful tiny driver that's buried on the accompanying disk under an evil mountain of typical, disgusting stupid bloatware. I have reproduced Wayne Stock's earlier instructions below:

I do repairs on computers as a hobby. I purchased this item, to save having superfluous cables when using the internet. I already have a wireless broadband router installed.
Having read the previous reviews, it is obvious that some people did have problems installing this device.
I took their advice and DID NOT follow the manufacturers instructions. I DID NOT install the software before plugging in the adaptor. I DID use the desktop extension lead supplied. It DOES make a difference. (I later tried it without the extension lead)
(The PC I was running was using the new Windows Vista operating system)
The computer immediately picked up the new hardware and asked to connect to the internet to find the necessary drivers. I declined that and merely used the browse facility to browse to the Drivers file on the CD that came with the adaptor. It installed and works fine.
I found: That the software on the CD is unnecessary - The driver files are tiny - the software is huge. See earlier reviews for details of problems with the software. I also found that the reception was better USING the desktop extension lead. And yes, the XP drivers DO work with Vista and XP. I hope this helps someone else.
