Product Description
The Freeplay Companion Radio promises assured listening, anytime, anywhere. Big on functionality, but small in size, the Companion is a radio, a flashlight and a Mobile phone charger that fits easily into your bag, your glove box or your drawer ready when you need it, where you need it. The AM/FM radio has an earphone socket for personal listening. The flashlight has 3 LEDs with optics optimized for a focused light. The integrated cell phone charger means that youll never be out of touch because of dead batteries. Offering a choice of self-charge, solar and external recharge power options, the Companion delivers complete independence from wall power or disposable batteries while ensuring sustainable access to information and entertainment. Freeplays patented self-charge technology means excellent reliability. A 1-minute wind gives you 20 minutes of radio listening at normal volume, or 30 minutes of light, and you can wind some more at any time for as much play time / shine time as you want. An LED charge level indicator tells you the best speed to wind. In direct sunlight the Companion will charge itself and play continuously. The internal NiMH battery can be fully charged from either the solar panel or an external charging adapter (any standard mini-USB AC charger will do), to give 12 hours of play time (depending on volume), or 16 hours of shine time.

5 out of 5 stars what a surprise   October 12, 2008
jeannie (kent UK)
I was thrilled when I received this little radio. Easy to crank, works immediately with very clear sound Can even charge your mobile phone with it, if no mains power available. I'm lucky and have a standard Nokia phone but you may have to purchase the necessary connectors for others phones. Not supplied with a mains charger, but haven't yet needed that as so easy to crank and is also solar powered. The flashlight is incredibly bright. The casing feels very robust and is small enough to slip in your pocket.Very easy to tune in and great volume. Having so many power cuts this is going to be a great companion for me in blackouts. So much cheaper than having to buy batteries. Ideal for anyone whether at home or on the move. It works really well in my caravan as well. I can't believe the clarity of the radio and the power of the flashlight. I'm amazed how such power comes out of this pocket sized item. Well done Freeplay. Although no manual supplied, this is easily downloaded from Freeplay website.

4 out of 5 stars excelllent radio torch   September 28, 2008

As a portable radio this is really excellent. My partner uses this all the time (though I really bought it to charge my phone). Clear sound easy to tune in. The charger however is really slow, working only at a trickle rate. Also I had to buy a connector for my phone. Still an excellent buy and reccomended.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing wee radio!   June 3, 2008

Arrived this morning, gave it a quick wind, which I probably didn't need to do and it's been playing for 3 hours. Very clear sound and better AM reception than my Roberts that cost 3 times this little beauty. Roberts also 'eats' batteries in the kind of outdoor use that I have it for. Not a problem now with a Freeplay! All up, an excellent, compact, robust, water resistant bit of kit that looks like it will be my radio of choice for years to come...
