Just about matches expectations! September 25, 2008 Craig Mcintosh (Fife, Scotland) Writing this 1 week after purchase and on the whole I am pleased with this unit. Spent weeks comparing this to the Klipsch etc, reading all reviews.... and in the end just gave up and went for this (the DAB clinched it). Pros: very high quality weight and feel to it * Sound is very good (I was maybe expecting too much from reviews) * seperate BASS and Treble controls (I ramped the Bass up as i felt it was missing at default setting) * No transformer on lead (Didnt want an ugly brick sitting on worktop next to cable - cant remember which competitor has that on theirs?) Cons: Thinking you are going to break the slide out dock when inserting the correct adaptor!!! * the increments in volume when increasing/decreasing could have been a bit closer ( being picky!) - you want the music a bit louder but next stage is too loud! * Could have done with a cover over the exposed subwoofer! speaker on rear (can see me putting finger through it when moving) All in all would recommend. Cheers!
boxy sound September 18, 2008 N. Khan (suffolk , england) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this on the strength of the reviews and I was also looking for one unit , no seperate speakers and DAB and ipod . it does all that and looks good and is easy to set up , just the sound is average and quite 'boxy'. an okay piece of kit for the spare room but certainly not what you want as your main sound system .
As an ipod dock it sounds great as a Alarm clock radio it needs work September 16, 2008 I. M. Nomominous (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
OK Good points It works very well with the Ipod. The Dab rocks where I am in Kingston upon Thames... the FM signal has always been bad round here. Bad points Screen is tiny. Also when playing the Ipod - you don't get any clock. You cannot change the brightness of the screen at all But the main problem for me is that it does not remember the setting you set the alarm for. i.e if you set up the Alarm as DAB then listen to the ipod to fall asleep to... the alarm will wake you up with the IPOD. You can have it set as beep and it will remember that. Very shoddy interface design. As it's a claimed feature I phoned Intempo and they are aware of this as a problem and have no plans to fix it for future models which is pretty poor. Unfortunately it's deal breaker for me - so it's going back.
Overall - superb September 16, 2008 N. Webster (UK) Simple set-up, great looks. Simple to use too - even the resident technophobe likes it. The DAB reception is crystal clear, far superior to the DAB system it replaced. I have no trouble with reception, and only need the aerial for one particular local DAB station. Only four stars because for some reason the iPod tray doesn't like one of the flock of iPods we have in this house : the Nano 4GB does not charge unless waggled about to the right position, though it does play. Yet the Nano 8GB and the iPod Classic both work exactly as advertised, so it could well be a problem with the Nano rather than the Intempo. My recommendation - buy it, you won't be disappointed !
