Great headphones for long plane and train journeys November 14, 2008 Graham (Cardiff, Wales) I got these noise cancelling headphones to pair up with the Sony NWZA816B 4GB video Walkman MP3 player for use on long plane and train journeys and they go together brilliantly, the headphones giving a really good quality, well-balanced sound. With the noise cancelling switched on, the headphones cancel out most but not all of the background noise but then you'd probably be looking at paying over 100 for a pair of heavy over ear type headphones to do any better. The huge advantage of these little beauties is comfort and portability - and their great value too. br / br /The headphones also come with an adapter that enables you to plug the headphones into a plane's entertainment system. This gives you the advantage of the great quality sound and noise cancelling abilities of these headphones whilst watching movies - you'll never have to use those cheap, low quality airline headphones again! br / br /A few people have commented here that the headphones hiss when the noise cancelling is switched on. This is true but the low volume hiss is infinitely better than having to listen to the loud background noise on trains and planes. With some relaxing music playing, you'll find yourself dosing off on those long haul flights with no problem.
very impressive for ear buds October 20, 2008 Joseph Mcgill (yokohama, japan) I must admit I have never like ear bud headphones, usually they sound tinny and leak outside sounds in even in the quietest of environments. br /These however are something else. The sound is deep clear and I was amazed by the noise canceling ability of these little things. I have been using the bose quiet comfort 2 wrap around headphones but these have much better noise reduction capabilities. br /Of course as ear buds they are not the most comfortable you'll get but overall I'd definitely recommend these.
Excellent balance between price and performance! May 3, 2008 Kevin Fenton (Manchester UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am a bit of an audiophile, and sound quality is important to me, as is style, performance, and of course price. These phones manage to brilliantly balance all of these factors, in a stylish design. br / br /The sound quality is wonderfuly open, balanced, detailed and clear. Used with my iPod touch with equalizer set to 'Flat' the bass is perfect in a product like this, ie detailed and not too thick and deep, and the treble is open and sweet! br / br /The noise reduction is very effective, though not as good as say the Bose QC3's, which I have owned. There is a noticeable hiss (significantly more than with the Bose phones) but it is the case that you would only turn on the circuitry in a noisy environment, when the hiss 'effect' seems to dissappear, and you truly benefit from significant reduction in low level ambient and annoying noise. You would hear some hiss in a quiet environment (which you hardly do with the Bose phones) but in this circumstance you can just turn of the noise cancelling, and they operate as a normal pair of good quality headphones (which the Bose phones don't). br / br /So, if you want top notch noise reduction but thick and woolly bass reproduction (and don't mind paying over 300 pounds!!) go for the Bose QC3's. But, if you want top quality sound, smart design, portability, along with very good noise reduction (when used in appropriate situations), and want all of this for about 60 pounds only, definitely get the Sony's!! br / br /A perfect balance of all factors in my view. Highly recommended!!
