Great technology but a shame the sound quality doesn't match! September 14, 2008 Mrs Nosey (Warwickshire, UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
As the another reviewer states, this is a great introduction to the world of internet radio and is also brilliant for steaming music from a PC or UPNP server. However, it is a shame that it sounds like a trannie! I have the Roberts WM-201 as well and whilst the Roberts is more expensive, the sound is so, so much better that it is worth the extra. The Roberts is also based on Reciva and the menus on the two units are very similar. br / br /This unit would be so much more valuable if it was truly portable - the lack of batteries is a real oversite; given the obvious battery compartment and the carrying handle, on is led to believe that there must have been some problem with delivering this option technically. br / br /So, I would have liked to know before I bought it that the speakers are really rather weedy but it does me really well as an alarm clock radio in my bedroom where I also occasionally like to listen to tracks stored on my PC. br /
A world of radio listening pleasure June 27, 2008 James B. Spink (Kent, UK) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
This Internet Radio from BT is the perfect introduction to the exciting new world of WiFi Radio. Forget DAB and it's ever decreasing selection of stations served through the sounds of bubbling mud, and say hello to over 12,000 stations from all around the world! br / br /This radio uses the common Reciva portal, they are the people who manage and update the station listings for you. The radio updates it's selection of stations each time it is switched on direct from it's connection to the Reciva host. You can add your radio's identity to your section of Reciva's website and you can then make your own favourites selection or add stations of your own choice if not already listed. It will work perfectly well if you choose not to do this - it's an extra feature. br / br /The radio has twelve button presets for your favourite stations, but you can add many more in the "My stuff" section of the menu. It is a stereo radio, unlike many at the price, and doesn't rattle at full volume. It is styled to match the white BT Home Hub, and looks quite reasonable and is well made. The two line blue backlit display shows station name and bit rate / file type when in radio mode. br / br /It is more portable than some others, but it is mains powered only; it does have what appears to be a battery compartment cover at the rear, but this is glued on! It has a headphone socket (and gives good bass via phones) but no Ethernet connection - it is purely wireless. br / br /It is easy to connect to your wireless router - the first time it is powered up it will search for your router and, once found, you probably need to enter the WEP code. This is the code on the back of your router, entered by using the tuning knob and select button - very straightforward. br / br /The radio also works as a Media Player and will connect wirelessly to a laptop or PC and play the music files it finds. This does not work for iTunes, however, as these tend to be copy controlled. A nice little radio that offers a new world of listening. br /
