Very good value for money August 25, 2008

For the money you can't complain; but the only negatives are: br /1. when using Dvd +R or -R recordable discs the disc motor makes aloud noise but the problem is resolved if you use rewritable discs. br /2. fast/forward can only be access using the remote. br /All in all a nice piece of kit.

Dont get me wrong this is a fab machine, i use to have the Philips 7" version (which was great), i took delivery of this new 8.5" version today - the picture is excellent and the sound is good (i wont go into any detail - there are plenty of better more detailed reviews here). The only drawback (its small i know - but i noticed it stright away), is that you can not fast fwd of fast rewind with the buttons on the machine, you have to use the remote - the 7" version allowed you to control everthing without the romote. Dont get me wrong, i recommend it - but just thought you should know.

I was looking for a portable dvd player that could play all the current formats (-r, +r, divx, multi region etc)and after a ton of time researching I came up with this model. It has a nice sleek look to it and feels very light in the hand. I have tried most of the formats on it and they all worked perfectly. The bonus of this model is the extra sized screen which does make a lot of difference, I could have bought a 7" model for the same money. The picture quality is excellent with no visible light spots and it plays even copies beautifully. br /All the relevant leads are included so you can attach it to a tv if you want and maintain a good picture. The remote control is an appropriate credit card size. I would have given 5 stars except for two minor points. The first is the sound which could have been given a bit more oomph, although with earphones this is not an issue. The second is that the loudness of the disc motor can be a little on the loud side, but as before when wearing earphones you do not notice this. br /So all in all I believe this to be a quality peice of kit from a major brand name at a reasonable price. (I purchased mine from the marketplace) I would definitely recommend this model if you are not looking for anything too fancy but something you can rely on to do exactly what it promises.

Well built, great picture and capable of accepting most disc formats, can output signals to external TV or accept inputs from other sources. Easy to make multi-region using the following: br /Open the disc tray br /Press SETUP br /Go to "Preferences" Press OK br /Press 212225 br /Press ARROW LEFT, ARROW DOWN br /Current region should be displayed (probably 2 if European) br /Press the button for the desired Region (0=codefree) br /Press SETUP br /Close the disc tray br / br /Great value especially if bought as factory recon unit with 12mts Warranty!!
