Reasonable quality product with a few foibles May 8, 2008 Mark S. Aston 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This product looks great - Philips are still obsessed with Apple's design principles. The sound quality and screen quality are significantly better than my previous 7" toshiba portable. It plays like a proper DVD/TV combo - you'll find that the 10" screen is big enough to use as a kitchen or sideboard DVD player. br /The build quality is OK - the lid snaps shut a little too sharply and you have to dig your fingernails under the lid to prize it open. The swivel screen is a nice idea, but I'm concerned that with use it'll be the first part of the product to fail. Since it only swivels 180 degrees, you might make the mistake of forcing it the wrong way or too far. At 180, it still represents great value, as long as you accept the minor imperfections. It would also benefit from being a slot-loading player, so you don't have to faff with the lid.
Seems good February 23, 2008 Mr. A. Livingstone (London, UK United Kingdom) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I haven't really looked it over but just to say it DOESN'T come with a car kit.
Amazing Player - just watch out for the few with quality issues November 11, 2007 Robert Cassab (London UK) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
This DVD is quite a nice unit. Its picture is absolutely fantastic and the sound is much better than the last Phillips portable DVD we owned. The really big downside is if your buying it for use with the kids this is not your player. Even the slightest amount of scratching stalls the disc player and it cant keep tracking. Play the same disc on a normal DVD or the other portable player and no similar problem. So if your kids tend to scratch your discs like mine then this is unfortunately not the one. br / br /Too bad in every other department its fantastic. One last pointer - watch out for the Argos version, it doesn't come a car mount but with a carry bag, found that out the hard way and had to take it back. br / br /(Late edit) after some net research I found a number of people complaining about quality issues with the players. So I took mine back - given the skipping problem I was experiencing - and the replacement is working normally i.e. playing reasonably scratched discs ... so the message here is check it thoroughly when you get it and be ready to return it if there are issues. Other than potential quality issues it really is an amazing player all round.
Not very portable but better resolution September 13, 2007 ogle1bogey (London) 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
This player has proper DVD resolution unlike the smaller Philips players so the screen is a lot clearer. Unfortunately it is also pretty large and heavy. Can be made multi region with the following instructions: open the tray door, press setup on the remote control, select audio, press right arrow, type 2,1,2,2,2,5, press the left arrow, down arrow, press 0 and the screen will display region code, press setup to save and exit. br / br /
