Good quick charger October 8, 2008 R. Hamilton Great charger even for 30. Quick although a bit noisy (less noise than a 360 though). Which batts are recomended?
Fast and useful. March 19, 2008 Wally Jones 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have used this charger for six months and found it to be very useful in that it does charge four AA or AAA cells very quickly. The charger,plug/transformer and car 12V adapter are substantial and well-made. When cells are inserted, a continuous (single) green led changes to red during charging and back to green when charge is complete. A fan operates during charging and for a limited time after charging. Unsuitable cells result in the led flashing when they are inserted. I found that it would not accept most of my lower capacity, older NiMH cells, although slower chargers have proved they still had plenty of useful life. br / br /Cells get very hot during charging due to the high current driven by the device. Its output is rated as DC 1.4V. 7.5A x 4 (AA) and 1.4V. 2.85A x 4 (AAA). Herein is my reservation about the charger. Charging at this speed involves high current, high temperature and obviously some gas build up in the cells during charging. This must have some detrimental effect on the cells, both in performance and life expectancy. Charge times exceeding one hour must be far better overall; but how many of us are that organised with our cells? br / br /I have observed that the same cells, charged to full capacity on a slower charger have a greater charge capacity (last longer between charges). This may be due to the circuits designed to prevent overcharging in the Energizer. It will depend on whether full charge is voltage or timer detected. br / br /A final observation; I prefer chargers where each cell has led indication of charging current. The biggest cause of failure to recharge is contact resistance (sometimes corrosion induced) between cell and charger terminals. With this charger, four cells can be inserted and only three charged. A temperature test is required to check that each cell has its own charging current. br / br /Overall it is a good unit and a life saver when every cell in the camera bag is flat! If we were more organised, such short charging times would be less necessary! I recommend its use alongside a slower unit.
Great for the Nintendo Wii December 27, 2007 M. Reeve (UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I already had a standard battery charger which took several hours to charge batteries. This was fine for my digital camera and the kids toys, but when I bought a Nintendo Wii and read how the wii remotes go through batteries, I bought one of these, and how glad I am I did. It really does only take 15 minutes to fully charge 4 AA batteries, so game play isn't interrupted. br / br /Only had it a few weeks, but very pleased with it so far. It even has a fan so it doesn't over heat.
Doesn't seem to charge older NiMH batteries December 20, 2007 G. Fraser (England) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The charger is brilliant - it charged the 4 supplied 2200mAh batteries in 15 mins. br / br /However, it doesn't seem to want to charge any of my older NiMH batteries - tried some Uniross (1300mAh) and Ansmann (2000mAh) NiMH batteries and it didn't like them at all. br / br /I'm not sure whether this thing can charge anything other than Energiser NiMH batteries or whether it just requires more modern NiMH batteries? I could find nothing in the instructions (or marketing materials) that indicated any problems with charging older NiMH batteries. br / br /Still, a full charge in 15 mins makes it a very worthwhile buy and the car charger is also extremely useful.
