Product Description August DA102A is high quality digital and analogue TV designed for you to watch Freeview TV where the signal is strong (a rooftop aerial should be used in some regions) and receive traditional analogue channels in most areas. It should be an ideal TV for Kitchen and bedrooms. With an optional external battery box (supplied separately with 10x2500mAh rechargeable AA batteries at 22.49), you can watch TV while boating, camping, at beach or in your garden. It can transfer Freeview TV to a larger screen TV as a set-top box, display pictures as a digital photo frame and also be used as a high quality monitor for a video player and game console. p Please note that there may be difficulty to receive Freeview TV signal by the included portable antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong at present. This is due to that the Freeview service (www.freeview.co.uk) in the UK is yet full power broadcasting to support portable TV antenna at present. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program (http://www.digitaltelevision.gov.uk). A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception capability in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (Please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to Freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings and etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to watch Freeview channels in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.

Beware - postage wrong! September 15, 2008 P. S. Boulton (Amersham, UK) It says postage is 5.50 on the description page but when you buy it it's 9.00! Not too clever if you're on the 1-click buy! And a mistake / dishonest on the part of the seller! br / br /I will be buying one of these tellies, just not here! br / br /Later... br /OK, I now have one of these tvs. If Amazon would let me change my stars I would reduce to 3 stars. The digital tuner is a lot less sensitive than the tuner on my Panasonic plasma. Sometimes I get most of the freeview channels and other times, inexplicably, I don't. For example, I can 'luck' the freeview channel and it displays fine. Then I switch to an analogue channel and try to return to freeview and all the channels say 'no signal'. I rang August who told me that probably the aerial signal was not strong enough (it's a new aerial, professionally fitted 6 months ago and my Panny works beautifully with it) and also that the digital tuner in the August is less sensitive than that fitted to the Panny as it's so small. br / br /That may well be the case, so don't think you'll get all the freeview channels easily, just because you get them on another telly in your house! br / br /Other than that, the picture quality is fine, the sound quality is a bit tinny. If it gave me the same access to the freeview channels as I get from my Panny I'd give it 5, but as I don't it will have to be 3!
Excellent Service and Product May 23, 2008 Kevin More (Hertfordshire) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Ordered 3pm yesterday, arrived early morning today just after 17 hours. The first impression was that the TV looks nice and cute. Plugged to power socket and home TV aerial, scanned 65 Freeview and digital radios channels within 2 minutes. TV pictures are very clear with good resolution. Lost a few channels when plugged to the included portable aerial, understand this is due to signal issue as my home in Herts is not good for reception coverage, but the analogue channels works fine with the small aerial. br / br /Tested to connect the TV to my laptop as a monitor, works ok and VGA is quite useful while connecting to the computer. br / br /Only downside of the TV is the sound is not quite powerful due the speakers are at back, but it is acceptably enough for a TV of this size.
