4 out of 5 stars Far more durable than I believed   November 16, 2008
Seren Ade (UK)
OK, the iPod shuffle isn't by any means the most sophisticated mp3 player on the market: indeed without a screen there's nothing to allow you to select specific tracks you want to play. And there're no track/artist details available through the player... to achieve these things you have to rely on iTunes. The choices you have are to play through tracks in the order you programmed them to appear (through iTunes), or to select 'shuffle' for random sequencing. br / br /The lack of basic track info is annoying, since even some very rudimentary players are able to output an lcd display with track names. br /However, as a basic player that you can take anywhere with minimal intrusion into your life, the ipod shuffle is exemplary. br / br /It has recently been the unobtrusive nature of the shuffle which has led to my discovering how durable it CAN be! Following an evening out, I unplugged my earphones and inadvertently left my shuffle clipped to a jacket... which I washed and tumble dried. br / br /1 week later, and thoroughly dried out, my shuffle works perfectly. With only minor scrapes on the edges of the player and clip to show for its ordeal by washing machine, I'm impressed by this durability!

4 out of 5 stars Shuffle it up!   October 18, 2008

I got given one of these (the blue 2Gb one to be precise) completely out of the blue. I didn't ask for one and would not have planned to buy one out of choice, but I thought i's give it a spin, how fun it is! br / br /I've got over 37Gb of music on iTunes, and currently have a 1st gen Ipod touch, but seeing as it was free, it'd be a nice addition to the collection. Plugged it in, set it up, hit autofill, done! br / br /Its that easy, as I like all typs of music, I don't mind what's being thrown on, and its so so tiny! Its ideal for me to walk to lectures with as its only about 15mins, and its small enough to easily fit in my pocket. br / br /Soundwise I can't see much of a difference to my iPod touch, only thing is it doesn't deliver as much bass, apart from that I find it fine. br / br /Ok, it doesn't have a screen, but its purely for music, and if you like listening to particular songs or albums, this might not be for you (however, I just put the songs I really like at the top of the playlist, flick it to un-shuffle and hit play 3 times, sorted!) br / br /Now i'm just finding how creative I can get at clipping it on me!

5 out of 5 stars Quality - You get what you pay for   September 19, 2008

OK, why the five stars? No graphic display, limited functionality when compared to more larger, more expensive items, but let's take a closer look. br / br /Having owned a number of MP3 players, including the oft maligned ipod 80gb, this gadget is really very smart. It is exactly what it was meant to be and for a little over 40.00 represents excellent value over its competitors. Apple have got the right idea, storing over 500 songs, it is small enough to clip on a t-shirt, but stores sufficient music or podcasts for me to travel to New York and back and still barely scratch the surface of what I had stored on it. What else is small? Well not the battery life, that's for sure and whilst the headphones are poor, it was not so long ago that I paid this amount for a player which was powered by an A3 alkaline, with earphones that were so poor they defied belief. br / br /In regards to the lack of graphic display. Let's get real, whilst I have loaded this up to the brim, for a fifty something, I find that 10 albums is enough and them change the playlist. But for a budget conscious young (or not so young) person, this item represents good value if you fill it up to the brim. br / br /Get one. br / br /
