3 out of 5 stars Excellent if you're on a budget   November 12, 2008
Nathan10 (Hullywood, UK)
These earphones come from a great manufacturer. However, they are towards the budget end of earphones as a whole. You can't have things both ways. No-one is going to produce amazing-sounding earphones for less than 20. The cost of top-class components and the sheer research that goes into them makes it impossible. br / br /People will often write "these are so much better than my iPod earphones!". Unfortunately that's not a standard by which to judge good quality sound. iPod earphones are mass-produced in their millions and are only there so you can use the iPod without buying additional equipment. br / br /What these are is a good step up. They handle the range of frequencies ok: in my opinion the bass is over-hyped; the mid frequencies are a little muddy, which can muffle vocals; but the top end has a decent amount of clarity. When handling something like an 808 kick drum (and other bassy booms), they tend to spread the sound unevenly over both ears, an indication that the drivers aren't matched pairs. You are not going to get that back of the throat/top of the neck vibration that better drivers would offer. br / br /On top of that, these earphones are a little bass-heavy, and need to be EQ'd with a treble boost - to my taste - but when you do that you get a nice sparkly top end which (as long as you've fitted them properly!) compliments the natural bassiness of the earphones. If you're listening to a wide variety of music, you might find they suit some styles more than others. br / br /When you feed them with good quality, well-recorded acoustic instruments they seem to come alive a bit more, and they do surprisingly well at distinguishing very subtle details in the upper register, like high stringed instruments and percussion. The flabbyness of the bass doesn't interfere with the higher frequencies which is actually very pleasing. br / br /Oh, the eco packaging is cool, and you get a free badge! A badge I tell you! br / br /These are not going to change my life, nor the way I hear my music, but they are certainly a good use of 17. I was maybe expecting a little more from them, but in retrospect that was a bit silly. They get 3 stars because, in the grand scheme of things, no earphones in this sort of price bracket are ever likely to get more than that. Having said that, I'd struggle to give iPod earphones 1 star, so this is a fantastic improvement.

5 out of 5 stars Another 5* review!   November 11, 2008

First of all I'd like to say: br / br /Beware of counterfeit goods! If you are buying a pair of headphonesfor 3 which should cost 16.99, then you're only going to get 3 worth of produce quality. Buy from trusted sources (like Amazon.co.uk for example) and there's very little to go wrong. br / br /The good points: br / br /These headphones are absolutely amazing, provided you can get the fit right (and they provide 3 different sizes of rubber cups to give you a fairly good range of choice. The bass is deep and rich, which is quite surprising for earphones of this size, and the mid range and tweeters are well adjusted to provide a smooth sound. They're small, durable, and very easy to carry around, and make brilliant replacements for my Apple headphones. And for the price there's very little you can go wrong. br / br /The noise sealing is quite good, I can quite happily listen to heavy metal on the tube and drown out the environmental noise with the volume only turned to 50%, without disturbing any of my fellow passengers (in fact, I've asked many of them and they said that it was not noticeable). br / br /The bad points: br / br /I think the main problem with this is common to all in-ear headphones, which is basically every sound you make is magnified. Your footsteps become louder and if the cable bangs against your jacket, it's noticeable, especially if you are listening to quiet music or a podcast. Therefore, this may not be the option of choice for people who like to listen to music while jogging or doing vigorous exercise.

5 out of 5 stars stunning (for the price)   November 9, 2008
Mr. N. C. Kendell (Devon, UK)
Bought these for use with my ipod. After reading about correct fitting of te silicone bits I spent some time finding the right ones. I also left them on for 24 hours to 'bed-in'. br /They are truly stunning in comparison with the supplied litle white things; but they do have limitations. For general run-of-the-mill music usage they are excellent, but for classical music they leave a bit to be desired; but for the price they are truly great headphones. If you want to listed to true audiophile quality music, then you really do need to be using a better source than an mp3, and also you will want to be using a top-end pair of 'cans', or speakers. BUT for use on-the-go I have not (personally) found better for the price. br /The only word of warning is they really do a good job of blocking out the outside world, which could be potentially dangerous - so do think about where you use them, and don't use them while biking or driving!!

Its amazing what a brand name and powerfull marketing can do? br /If you do a little research you will see that the following earphones all have the same design: br /Sennheiser Cx300, br /AKG K324, br /Creative EP630, br /Sharp HP-MD33S, br /Soundwise T4. br / br /This is probabley because they are produced in the same factory? br /Sennheiser were not the first to use the design, that was sharp. Sennheiser don't have the best drivers, that is AKG and Soundwise. They are not the cheapest, thats Creative closely followed by Soundwise. br / br /Despite these fact Sennheiser out sell all the other brands combined. Amazing really! They are not bad earphones but you really are just paying for the brand.
