Absolutely Superb April 20, 2008 Stephen Anderson (Scotland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got this piece of kit about 3 months ago so this isn't a 'first impressions' review. I was up and running in less than 5 minutes, this really is a plug and go solution. br / br /The software for the PC is easy to use and it has played all of my AVI and MP3 files without any problems. If you're looking to play other types of media files then this isn't for you. br / br /I am using a wired connection and I would suggest that this is still the best way to guarantee performance, however I tried the wireless connection just for the hell of it and it worked perfectly well. It will just depend on the layout of your building whether wireless will work well or not, hardly the device's fault if it doesn't. br / br /Like I said, an excellent bit of equipment which has turned out to be a great investment.
Good for DivX/AVI and MP3, not DVD April 19, 2008 C. J. Weston (Derby, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Good product for watching DivX or AVI movies and your photos and mp3. br /Loses 1 star for the following issues: br /a) Is a bit fiddly to set up on WiFi took me a good two hours to sort out br /b) DivX Connected has to be running on your PC while you use it and it sometimes takes loads of memory up, I have had it crash after using up my 1Gb page file and DivX support is rubbish. br /c) Can't play any DVD or some MPG files so will have to convert to AVi or DivX
Buy Buy Buy!!! April 12, 2008 Mike Hatch (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What a product!. At first glance you think "Ok, this cost 129. Why?" and then you set it up and bingo it works instantly and it works to perfection. Interface is basic but it does exactly what you want. You want to listen to music, selct the song and hey presto it's playing. You want to watch an entire 700mb movie and as fast as you can blink it has started playing. No bufferring just instant playback. br / br /Only thing lacking is the ability to browse the internet or your emails but for media streaming it is faultless. br / br /If only they built this in to TV's. One day maybe but if you cant wait, BUY THIS TODAY.
Great system, but buy with care March 29, 2008 D. Ross (UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellant system, easy to use if you are skilled at programming to use add-ins. Works really well with DivX Video and Jpeg files But NOT with standard DVD's or streaming television. However, it does not claim to do so
Good at streaming DIVX but nightmare to set up - might be worth waiting to see what else comes out March 28, 2008 Mr. R. A. Smart (uk) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Ok, br / br /I have a 54meg wireless network that is secured with WPA-PSK, SSID is hidden and only allowed MAC addresses can connect to the network. br / br /If you have similar, you will end up going through the whole process of trying to set up to be told that the device cannot connect. After 2 hours of trying to connect by removing wireless security etc managed to find a link to an independant website http://labs.divx.com who state on their forum that after youve added the device to your allowed MAC address list, you have to unplug the DSM-330 and try and reinstall. br / br /Dlink support is a waste of space hence why ive given this a 3 star - if you need help i wouldnt bother asking them or looking at their website. Whilst the above link was a great resource, I just find it a shame that Dlink cannot provide adequate support for their products. br / br /Also the "DIVX Connected" is a load of rubbish - you can no longer get streaming from stage6 so there is no DIVX connected feature! Maybe they will in a future firmware release connect up to another site, but for time being you will be limited to playing DIVX movies from your PC. the product description of "Internet Video from Your Couch. Play all your DivX videos from the PC and the Internet, including DivX HD videos at up to 720p" is misleading at best (in fact its now a big whopping lie!!!) br / br /Long and short, it was the best ive seen for playing divx over a wireless connection, ffwd and rewind all work fine - there is a bit of chop every now and then so its not perfect, but I will live with that. However, when someone releases an 802.11n device, that supports more than just DIVX such as DVD or additional online streaming such as BBC iPlayer etc etc then my Dlink DSM-330 will im afraid be resold on ebay without a 2nd thought! br /
