cracking little radio for the price December 6, 2007 J. Brand (UK) 23 out of 26 found this review helpful
Excellent little DAB radio br / br /This really is a cracking little radio for the price. Many people have grown accustomed to DAB radios costing a hundred pounds and upwards so to see their price coming down recently it's reassuring to see that the quality has stayed as high as it was. br / br /Having moved to an area where FM reception was virtually non existent we decided to supplement our (admittedly very nice but also very expensive) roberts DAB with another couple of DABs for the house. The Pure One is definitely the best of those new radios. The case looks a bit plastic but on the whole it's an unobtrusive piece of kit and just sits there doing its job. It found all the major stations and a whole range of minor stations, certainly far more than we could ever find on FM, and if you still can't find what you want then FM is available. br / br /Some of the features seem a bit silly. For example the preset station is almost as cumbersome as selecting the station without the presets. To select a station without the presets press 'station' and turn the main dial to your station. To use the presets press 'preset' and turn the main dial to your station. But with 20 presets that's as long winded as the non preset method! It has a kitchen timer built in for no readily apparent reason that I can see. It has a sleep timer which is sort of useful I suppose but wouldn't it be a good idea to put in a wake up timer as well? the radio knows the time so would it be so hard to do?It also has the ability should you really want it to be able to update the radio's software, though I can't really see anyone being desparately worried about doing that. If they really wanted to add features then why not pause and rewind? But then again it is a cheap DAB radio. br / br /All in all a cracking little radio for the money. Remarkably good sound quality for a little box, unobtrusive and very usable.
My first 'DAB' at it !!!!!! December 3, 2007 J. Byron-Jones (Herts. UK.) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
'Clever me' I thought. 60 years of trannies and this is no different!!! br /I learned the hard way but then saw the light. READ the very simple br /instruction booklet; easy to follow, understand and put the DAB into br /gear. After that, it is total enjoyment; easy to operate and wonderful br /listening.
Great 'little' radio December 1, 2007 G. Hughes 26 out of 28 found this review helpful
I don't normally feel moved to write a review, but this little radio has a 5 star reception and great sound quality for its size. I have bought mine for the bedroom and it would be ideal for a number of other locations around the house, even some quite big spaces. It is basically plug and play with the radio rapidly auto-tuning into the DAB stations. Overall, a super radio with no apparent vices.
Great sound December 1, 2007 Thomas Worrall (Barrow, Cumbria, UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Good value and very good sound. A little fiddley to change stations but overall I am well satisfied.
Great value for money November 14, 2007 Mr. N. Mckenzie 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
Like other reviewers, I think this sounds great, and it has a great price - good value for money and I can recommend it. I gave it 4 stars not 5 because the menu system design makes it hard to channel-hop, something I like to do (i.e. listen to a channel for 20 seconds then try the next one until I find something I want to listen to). This is because the large central knob shares its function with the volume control. To change to another preset channel, you need to press "preset" then turn the knob to the channel, then press the central knob. Now, to go up to the next preset the central knob will have reverted to volume again, so you need to press the "preset" button again. This takes you back to preset 1, not the preset you are currently listening to. So you have to rotate up to the current preset channel, then one more, then press the central knob again - and so on. The other way to channel hop, using the "channel" button instead of "preset" works the same except that you do actually come in on your current channel each time. Although it sounds like a whinge, remember I am still recommending this radio! I get clear DAB reception in my area even with the aerial fully down - and the carrying handle is just a recess in the case - so no sticking out bits to get broken or caught as you carry it around. br / br / br /
