5 out of 5 stars So far so very good   August 17, 2006

I am not technical but do appreciate good quality sound. I recently purchased a new Dell 5150 desk top (of reasonable spec) and debated at the time of purchase whether to include the Dell recommended X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card. I was advised by others that this was not necessary as the 'on-board' sound chip was more than adequate. I purchased a cheap set of 5.1 speakers (X530's) and a pair of Sennheiser headphones. Sound quality was acceptable but, as expected, not great. I then read numerous reviews of the X-Fi card and despite some severe warnings re system crashes, poor drivers etc. I eventually succumbed, and purchased the card. Having read various warnings I made sure the various necessary drivers were up to date before installing the card and so far I have not experienced any problems. The card has met/exceeded all expectations (based on rave reviews from others) and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to vastly improve sound quality and functionality.

5 out of 5 stars THE EXTREME SOUND CARD   June 4, 2006

Between seven or eight years ago when I built my last computer, I was recommended a sound card then made by CREATIVE and it has given me excellent service for all that time until my PC speakers packed up and soon after it was time to upgrade my PC. br / br /Recently (May 2006)I built a new computer and I wondered whether I was going to use the onboard sound card or to install a dedicated sound card. A good friend in the music industry recommened a CREATIVE Audigy 2 ZS sound card to me, but I have had a lot of trouble getting hold of a new one. So instead I made a decision to try CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER X-FI XTREME MUSIC instead. Although it is somewhat more expensive than the Audigy 2 ZS I think it is worth every penny. It sounds better than most peoples home hi-fi systems, with a good pair of speakers attached off course. br / br /Setting up was very straight forward and gave no problems when using Windows XP Professional. I am particularly impressed with the level of build quality and finish. There is off course a lot more on this card for the serious music maker, but if your interested in high quality sound, here it is in one package. Worth every penny.
