5 out of 5 stars Go For It   August 30, 2007

It isn't often, if ever, that I would consider buying a set of speakers purely from written reviews. However I decided I would take a chance given that the overall Amazon rating for the i-Groove was 5 star. I'm real glad I did because the reviews turned out to be accurate and I am now adding my own 5 stars. The unit is well built and aesthetically pleasing but the bottom line is the sound quality. For under a ton it's incredible value. I have a set of Logitech 50mm which are great if portability is important without the necessity of mains power. However for pure sound check out the Klipsch. You cannot be disappointed for this outlay. The Amazon delivery service was also spot on.

4 out of 5 stars I want another one   August 30, 2007

Yep, all the reviews are right - this is a great piece of kit. The bass isn't brilliant when turned up really loud, but for anything other than rocking parties, this is great - the sound quality is superb and for the price is great value. So much so that I went and bought another one for the dining room...

5 out of 5 stars Klipsch iGroove iPod Speaker System (silver or black)   August 28, 2007

(I actually bought the silver one of these but the black one is identical so thought I'd put the review here too) br / br /I'd been searching for ages for an iPod speaker dock system that would rival and maybe even replace my old separates hi-fi system that had started to show its age. (I work in the film industry and used to run a recording studio so good sound is very important to me). I was pretty thorough in my research, home-tested two different units, became a pain to many a shop assistant and also poured over reviews on the net researching which units to test. I finally bought the Klipsch iGroove iPod Speaker System from Amazon and am very happy with it indeed. In fact, I think it is the best sounding iPod speaker dock that I found to date and recommend it most highly. br / br /Speaker docks have two design limitiations: br /1) The size of the dock tends to limit the bass response. br /2) The way many docks connect to the iPod is via a male socket that plugs into the base of the iPod. This socket is often hard-wired to the pcb of the dock system, is subject to stress when the iPod is plugged in or unplugged and therefore can fail after light use. br / br /The iGroove has a bass port at the back of the unit which is very effective. Additionally, the iPod fits snugly into the cradle on the unit, with a neat slider arrangement embedded into this cradle being adjusted up or down depending on which iPod you fit. (I use this unit with a 5g Video iPod and a 4g 40 Gig iPod just fine). The actual male connector is fixed firm and has no play to it. By adjusting the slider to the correct hight, you can drop the iPod into the unit and take it out again without causing any stress at all to the plug. Also, if you adjust the slider correctly, the iPod cannot move at all when connected, thereby limiting the potential for any stress to the connector. br / br /Untis I tested included the following: br /Monitor Audio i-deck Speaker Dock for iPod (I actually bought one of these and although it sounded great, I returned it after a couple of months as the connector failed - a common fault according to Newsgroups) br /JBL Onstage II - iPod Speaker System - (very dissappointing sound and really lacked in bass) br /JBL Radial - High Performace iPod Speaker System - (although more powerful, still not as impressive as I'd hoped) br / br /Smaller, cheaper units sounded smaller and cheaper! I also read some pretty worrying comments from users of iRythhm regarding failure of the connector... br / br /In summary:- br / br /Pros: br /Great sound br /Small size br /Good price br /Excellent build quality br / br /Cons: br /Remote is a bit fussy - have to point it directly to the unit as it is infra-red (the Monitor Audio iDock used an RF remote which was much better).

5 out of 5 stars No contest!   August 23, 2007

Like others, have researched the best sound output for my i-pod, as well as looking extremely sexy. This is the best 99 I have spent this year. Can charge play my shuffle as well as my 30gb video and the sound - awesome! br / br /Would highly recommend the Klipsch I Groove - DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ELSE you will be disappointed. I have returned 2 previous speaker systems that did not come anywhere close to this!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant all rounder   August 21, 2007

I had been thinking about the Bose Speakers at 250 for a while but felt it was a lot to pay on top of the video ipod I had bought. The Klipsch was on offer at 109 (original price 149.99) and had 5 stars from reviewers so that swayed me. It is absolutey a brilliant buy. You can have two of the Klipsch's for less than the price of one Bose if you want. It looks and sounds great, quick and easy to use, smart and excellent quality with remote control for the couch potato. The sound is crystal clear and perfect and I don't see how paying another 150 for the Bose would give 150 better quality sound. Sleek design looks great in any home (I see there's a silver version too which looks great but is at the original 149.99 price on Amazon). I have been moving the speakers around the house - which is fine (although they are heavy) and due to the price drop fancy buying one for upstairs - I'll put it on the Christmas list. I thoroughly recommend this and give it 5 stars. I see now that from Amazon the Klipsch is further reduced to 99 - a saving of 50 - BUY IT!
