Great buy but excentric August 4, 2008 Mr. K. W. Jenkins (Cambridge UK) I love this freeview recorder and it is extremely easy to use. br /great being able to record 2 channels at once. br /it can be a bit quirky in that it will record a program it thinks you will like. i have had many Dr Who episodes recorded for me. br /it has a list of timers which even after you have cleared them after it has recorded them for you, reappear but with no times against them which means you have to clear them again. i put this down to excentricity. br / br /all in all a great product, with high quality recording
Feature breakdown + How to use it best. July 18, 2008 A. Reviewer (United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Update: sound is terrible; very distorted, sounds like speakers are blown except they arent. br / br /== Best use == br /Use the 7 day EPG or search to record programmes and then watch them. Not great for manipulating live TV or channel hopping. br / br /== Best feature == br /The search feature is great and earns all the stars in this review. It lets you find a list of programmes by genre, like movies, or with any text in the name like "SIMP" to find all Simpsons programmes. You can then record them one by one with a button press. br / br /== Flaws == br /* You cannot pause/rewind live TV without pressing Time Shift and this only works on a single channel at once and you can't change channel with it enabled. When you press it it pauses by default but you can't rewind unless you have already started the time shift. br /* When you change channel nearly half the screen is covered by text and menus that waste space, for a few seconds, and you can't disable it. br /* Software has not been updated since 2006 (or it fails to update). br /* Moving channels around the channel list is terrible; you have to select the channel and enter the new position by number. br /* Not enough options on menus to fix flaws. br / br /== Remote == br /Batteries (2AA supplied) go in the front making it top heavy. Buttons are hard to distinguish by touch but you can get used to them. Channel + and - buttons are small but not hard to use. Large arrow buttons should control volume and channel but instead they do nothing except on menus. Buttons are more unresponsive than my other remotes. br / br /== Optimal method of channel hopping == br /Press INFO (hard to reach button on top of remote), press up and down arrows to see what's on the other channels, press OK to switch. br / br /== Box contents == br /Short RF cable, remote, 2 AA batteries, no scart lead. br / br /== Other notes == br /Picture quality and sound are fine in my opinion. I have a low signal and it works better than my old digital receiver. Makes soft clicking noise when recording but is slightly irritating. Display shows automatically updated clock when off, channel number when on. You can disable the radio channels in the options. You can set up several favourites lists which when selected prevent you from channel hopping to non-favourites. Box is same size as my VCR. Light on front shows when recording. br /
compatibility with Samsung 42" Plasma March 6, 2008 J. Shaw 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just bought a Samsung Plasma and after weeks of driving me nuts I have worked out that they just don't go together (flashing screen, particularly if very white). Think I might need to upgrade the daewoo a tad. Has anyone else had these problems? br /I have accepted the noises and live tv chasing problems as a sign of the eccentric character of the machine now! For the money its still a good buy.
Dont give up on it yet! February 10, 2008 J. Henry (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was just about to return mine as I thought it was faulty because it was so noisey and kept virbrating (?hard drive). I had to get up and unplug the damn thing in the middle of the night as it kept waking me up. It was so loud when watching anything I had to turn the volume up to try and mask the noise and could still hear it!! br / br /I read one off the reviews which said you should turn off the automatic channel scan which can be found in 'setup' and hey presto is purrs like a kitten and I have had my first decent night sleep in ages! br / br /Not impressed with the EPG visually as it is red on a white background with grey text how people with impaired vision can see it I dont know. br / br /Other than those gripes it does what it says on the box and to be honest I am enjoying the funtions of being able to record and watch a different channel, the time shift, and abilty to record series as I'm always asleep when Family Guy's on! br / br / br / br /
